《汉书新证》系陈直先生著作集《摹庐丛著》之一种,是《史记新证》的姊妹篇,也是奠定陈先生学术地位的成名作和代表作。《汉书》历代研习者甚众,为之做过注解的不下数百家,在这一领域已少有剩义,要取得突破非常不易。陈先生另辟蹊径,广泛运用出土资料,如居延敦煌简牍、碑刻、汉铜器、漆器、陶器以及封泥、玺印、货币等。全书的考订条目达两千多条,其中百分之八十取证于出土资料。新材料的运用使许多千古聚讼的问题得有定谳,为秦汉史研究开辟了一条新路。
