description
Durant le labourage d'un champ, en cet octobre 1143, la charrue remonte à la surface de la terre le cadavre d'une femme. Le locataire du champ est un potier nouvellement arrivé à l'abbaye des Saints-Pierre-et-Paul, demandant à devenir moine. Il vient de se séparer de sa femme, après quinze ans de mariage, et la rumeur dit déjà que cette superbe créature d'origine galloise serait repartie dans son pays, peut-être même avec un amant. Mais la découverte du cadavre pose mille questions qui incitent, une fois de plus, frère Cadfael à quitter la tranquillité des préparations médicinales pour tenter d'élucider ce crime très déconcertant.
