Pour ma part, lorsque j'ai commencé ce livre, j'avais l'intention d'écrire une histoire cocasse, haute en couleur : celle d'une vieille aventurière qui se donne un dauphin avant de raccrocher, et le forme à l'arnaque. Je ne me doutais pas, à cet instant, que j'allais commettre l'ouvrage le plus grinçant de ma carrière, m'enfoncer dans un conte de fées noir à vous en flanquer le vertige, et peut-être même dépasser certaines limites. Mais je ne regrette rien. Quand on est capable de tout, il faut le prouver.
