Los hijos de Ogaiz da comienzo en el año 1328, a la muerte sin descendencia de Carlos I el Carlvo, rey de Francia y de Navarra. La situacion de interregno sin cabeza visible aprovechada por los navarros para reclamar un rey propio, la destruccion de Olgacena, una de las juderias mas importantes de Navarra, y la muerte de casi todos sus vecinos, la terrible y larga seguia, el hambre, la falta de recursos y la posterior llegada de la peste negra, son algunos de los hechos historicos en los que se basa esta narracion.
Dos familias, la de los Ogaiz, labradores del viejo barrio de Lizarra, y la de los Bertolin, comerciante afincados en el burgo franco de Estella, viviran aquellos duros años enfrentadas por la tradicion, el modo de ver la vida, las ambiciones, la venganza, las penalidades y tambien el amor.
