"Every woman's life seems to be marked by an aggressiveness that, whether explicit or concealed in symbolic warps, the social order of genders imposes on us. The thirty-six authors of this anthology, zealously prepared by Laidi Fernández de Juan, highlight the terrible costs of gender violence in its many manifestations. But they go further, with the collective cry of a long silenced voice, the female voice, they make their own the pain rooted for centuries among many women, they expose it without fear of facing the myths of the nuclear family and unconditional love; showing themselves as victims and victimizers; from complex points of view on the "cycle of violence", and revealing thorny nuances for human emotions. They are Cuban authors of different generations, literary styles and position of residence that converge, perhaps unconsciously, in the common concern of narrating the abuse caused by the imbalance of power between women and men that arises after the social action of a patriarchal culture millennial. The variety of views and sensibilities that Fernández de Juan collects in the volume contains the discursive richness of her denunciation. Whoever reads these stories will not find a political program, a psychological study or a manifesto, although as a whole the work is highly tribute to these ends. Rather, it beats a willful subjectivity of women who want to make an account of themselves and alleviate shared anguish"-- ‡c Translated from page [4] of the cover
