The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Knickerbocker Classics) Mark Twain; Sarah Kernan Race Point Publishing, Quarto Publishing Group, New York, New York, 2016
Rediscover the classic American tale or join Tom Sawyer's adventures on for the first time. A favorite among young readers and adults alike, Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer , first published in 1876, is considered to one of the great novels about American adolescence along with its sequel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn . Tom Sawyer is a young orphan living with his half brother Sid at their Aunt Polly's house. A bad apple in school, he resists all efforts at correction, except when it comes to courting the lovely Becky Thatcher. Along with his buddy Huck Finn, Tom fools around, plays practical jokes and causes trouble—until the day when the two witness a murder. Many readers see The Adventures of Tom Sawyer as a children's book, however there are shades to this tale that even adults who return to the story may have missed. Complete and unabridged, this elegantly designed, clothbound edition features an elastic closure and a new introduction by Sarah Kerman. The Knickerbocker Classics bring together the essential works of classic authors from around the world in stunning editions to be collected and enjoyed.

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (Knickerbocker Classics) Mark Twain; edited by Lucy Rollin Broadview Press; Dover, Dover ed, 2011
This classic novel of childhood is set in fictional St. Petersburg, a town based on Mark Twain’s hometown of Hannibal, Missouri. Twain’s recounting of Tom Sawyer’s many escapades is by turns nostalgic, satiric, wise, and hilarious. While this novel is often considered mainly as the precursor to Twain’s great work __The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn__, it is abundantly worth considering for its own deft and loving transformation of autobiography into fiction. In addition to the full text of the novel based on the first American edition, complete with a selection of the original illustrations by True Williams, this Broadview edition provides a wide range of appendices that place the novel in the context of 1840s rural America as well as 1870s literary America. These include materials on the composition and marketing of Tom Sawyer, selections from other “boy books” of the period, and historical documents relating to temperance, children’s literature, and schools.
