A Guide to Customer Service Skills for the Help Desk Professional, Second Edition
Knapp, Donna
Boston, MA: Thomson Course Technology, 2nd ed., London, England, 2005
This text has been completely revised to focus on new business topics such as trend analysis, root cause analysis, cost benefit analysis, and measuring return on investment. With less of a focus on technology and more of a focus on "soft" and self-management skills, this book will help students succeed as help desk professionals. The chapters on customer satisfaction and listening techniques can be used as quick reference in the work environment, outside of the classroom. Each chapter explores, in detail

Clause and Effect : Prolog Programming for the Working Programmer
William F. Clocksin
Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG, Springer Nature, Berlin, Heidelberg, 2012
This book is for people who have done some programming, either in Prolog or in a language other than Prolog, and who can find their way around a reference manual. The emphasis of this book is on a simplified and disciplined methodology for discerning the mathematical structures related to a problem, and then turning these structures into Prolog programs. This book is therefore not concerned about the particular features of the language nor about Prolog programming skills or techniques in general. A relatively pure subset of Prolog is used, which includes the 'cut', but no input/output, no assert/retract, no syntactic extensions such as if then-else and grammar rules, and hardly any built-in predicates apart from arithmetic operations. I trust that practitioners of Prolog program ming who have a particular interest in the finer details of syntactic style and language features will understand my purposes in not discussing these matters. The presentation, which I believe is novel for a Prolog programming text, is in terms of an outline of basic concepts interleaved with worksheets. The idea is that worksheets are rather like musical exercises. Carefully graduated in scope, each worksheet introduces only a limited number of new ideas, and gives some guidance for practising them. The principles introduced in the worksheets are then applied to extended examples in the form of case studies. Erscheinungsdatum: 13.10.1997

The Personal Cybersecurity Bible
Ledford, Jerri L.
Boston, MA: Thomson Course Technology, 1 edition, November 23, 2005
<p>Cybersecurity threats and cybercrimes are rising exponentially each year. From cyberstalking to investment fraud, any one of the 70 million internet users in the United States is a target. "The Personal Cybersecurity Bible" serves as a complete reference guide for readers who want or need more information about protecting themselves from cybersecurity threats. Packed with definitions, tips, tools, and real-life examples, this book is the equivalent of a household alarm system for your computer. Each type of cybersecurity threat is explained in detail, from cyberstalking, to spam, to identity theft, and hacking. Preventative measures such as updates, patches, and virus protection are also covered. Written in a friendly, approachable style, "The Personal Cybersecurity Bible" provides practical, hands-on, and effective solutions to cybersecurity threats and serves as the single resource to help readers prevent personal cybercrimes.</p>

Annotation A guide to developing applications for the main types of modern mobile devices--the Palm OS and the Pocket PC, this book focuses on using the new MobileVB tool from AppForge to create PDA applications. The applications developed are specifically for Palm devices, pocket computers with the Pocket PC/Windows CE operating system, and for Kyocera and similar communicators. Descriptions are of a different, free development environment from Microsoft--eMbedded Visual Basic 3.0--that allows programmers to create applications for pocket computers with the Pocket PC OS and its previous version, Windows CE. Tasks that use databases including a compact version of the SQL server are emphasized. Described are the basic features of MobileVB and eVB and their limitations when compared to standard Visual Basic. A detailed description is given of the controls (ingots) of each of the languages, the library functions, and the accompanying utilities. Groovy Recipes: Greasing the Wheels of Java (Pragmatic Programmers)
Scott Davis; [edited by Daniel H. Steinberg]
The Pragmatic Bookshelf, Pragmatic programmers, 1. print, Raleigh, NC, 2008
<p>Each recipe in <i>Groovy Recipes</i> begins with a concise code example for a quick start, followed by in-depth explanation in plain English. These recipes will get you to-to-speed in a Groovy environment quickly.</p> <p>You'll see how to speed up nearly every aspect of the development process using Groovy. Groovy makes mundane file management tasks like copying and renaming files trivial. Reading and writing XML has never been easier with XmlParsers and XmlBuilders. Breathe new life into Arrays, Maps, and Lists with a number of convenience methods. But Groovy does more than just ease traditional Java development: it brings modern programming features to the Java platform like closures, duck-typing, and metaprogramming.</p> <p>As an added bonus, this book also covers Grails. You'll be amazed at how quickly you can have a first-class web application up and running from ground zero. Grails includes everything you need in a single zip file—a web server (Jetty), a database (HSQLDB), Spring, Hibernate, even a Groovy version of Ant called GANT. We cover everything from getting a basic website in place to advanced features that take you beyond HTML into the world of Web Services: REST, JSON, Atom, Podcasting, and much much more.</p>
