lgli/Schwartz, Arielle [Schwartz, Arielle] - EMDR Therapy and Somatic Psychology (2018, W. W. Norton Company).epub
Emdr therapy and somatic psychology: 10 interventions to enhance embodiment in trauma treatment Schwartz, Arielle [Schwartz, Arielle] W. W. Norton & Company, Incorporated, First edition, New York, 2018
A guide to help EMDR practitioners to integrate somatic therapy into their sessions. Clients who have experienced traumatic events and seek EMDR therapists rely on them as guides through their most vulnerable moments. Trauma leaves an imprint on the body, and if clinicians don't know how to stay embodied in the midst of these powerful relational moments, they risk shutting down with their clients or becoming overwhelmed by the process. If the body is not integrated into EMDR therapy, full and effective trauma treatment is unlikely. This book offers an integrative model of treatment that teaches therapists how to increase the client's capacity to sense and feel the body, helps the client work through traumatic memories in a safe and regulated manner, and facilitates lasting integration. Part I (foundational concepts) offers a broad discussion of theory and science related to trauma treatment. Readers will be introduced to essential components of EMDR therapy and somatic psychology. The discussion then deepens into the science of embodiment through the lens of research on emotion, memory, attachment, interpersonal neurobiology, and the impact of trauma on overall health. This part of the book emphasizes the principles of successful trauma treatment as phase-oriented, mindfulness-based, noninterpretive, experiential, relational, regulation focused, and resilience-informed. Part II (interventions) presents advanced scripted protocols that can be integrated into the eight phases of EMDR therapy. These interventions provide support for therapists and clients who want to build somatic awareness through experiential explorations that incorporate mindfulness of sensations, movement impulses, breath, and boundaries. Other topics discussed include a focus on complex PTSD and attachment trauma, which addresses topics such as working with preverbal memories, identifying ego states, and regulating dissociation; chronic pain or illness; and culturally-based traumatic events. Also included is a focused model of embodied self-care to prevent compassion fatigue and burnout.

Peace with self, peace with food : a trauma healing approach for emotional eating Galina Denzel; Arielle Schwartz Pure Belonging, PS, 2022
It's not about willpower, and it's not about the food. Most people blame their eating behaviors on a lack of willpower. Eating intuitively hasn't worked. Eating less and moving more? Trying to change your body image? These only last so long. Many people are worried that they can never have a healthy relationship with food. Peace with Self, Peace with Food looks past all that, and gets to the heart of what causes our battles with food. Through her years of training and practice in trauma healing — as well as her own reconciliation with food and self — Galina Denzel has developed a program to help readers embark on their own journey to healing. Personal and ancestral traumas inform behaviors around food, and Peace with Self, Peace with Food will help you identify patterns laid down even before you were born. Patterns that have long contributed to your eating behaviors, and continue to affect your relationship with food today. Through the exercises in Peace with Self, Peace with Food you will come to understand your eating habits and the neurobiological network that has held them in place until now. What's more, you will see food, your mind, and your body in a new light. Not as enemies to be tamed, but as allies that can teach you how to care for yourself, and for your health, with love.

Mindful Somatic Awareness for Anxiety Relief : A Body-Based Approach to Moving Beyond Fear and Worry Michele L. Blume PsyD SEP; Arielle Schwartz New Harbinger Publications, Inc, New Harbinger Publications, Oakland, CA, 2020
Quiet the fear in your body before it hijacks your mind—all while restoring resilience and vitality! Anxiety is a modern epidemic, and unfortunately it just seems to be getting worse. If you're one of the millions of people who suffer from anxiety, you probably already know that trying to control your anxious thoughts and worries won't work. That's because fear doesn't begin with your thoughts. It begins in the body . So, how can you calm your body so your mind will follow? Written by a psychologist and Reiki practitioner, and based on cutting-edge research, this book shines a much-needed spotlight on the role our bodies play in generating and perpetuating anxiety. Using the SOAR model—Sense, Observe, Articulate, Reflect—you'll learn to connect more deeply with your body, observe your senses, and articulate and reflect on what you observe. By shifting your attention to bodily sensations, you'll actually reduce activity in the fear-generating parts of your brain. Though untrue, such beliefs can feel extremely real and frightening. Difficult as it may be, facing one's PTSD from unresolved childhood trauma is a brave, courageous act-and with the right guidance, healing from PTSD is possible. Clinical psychologist Dr. Arielle Schwartz has spent years helping those with C-PTSD find their way to wholeness. She also knows the territory of the healing firsthand, having walked it herself. Useful features of The Complex PTSD Workbook include: Examples and exercises through which you'll discover your own instances of trauma through relating to PTSD experiences other than your own, such as the following: [Example] Diane was very skilled at avoiding dealing with her traumatic past. To survive, she had learned to bury her painful feelings and memories, preferring not to talk about her childhood. It simply hurt too much. [Exercise] In what ways can you relate to Diane's story? Take some time to write down any associations you have. Information about common PTSD misdiagnoses such as bipolar disorder, ADHD, anxiety disorders, major depressive disorder, and substance abuse, among others. Explorations of common methods of PTSD therapy including somatic therapy, EMDR, CBT, DBT, and mind-body perspectives. Chapter takeaways that encourage thoughtful consideration and writing to explore how you feel as you review the material presented in relation to your PTSD symptoms. The Complex PTSD Workbook aims to empower you with a thorough understanding of the psychology and physiology of C-PTSD so you can make informed choices about the path to healing that is right for you and discover a life of wellness, free of C-PTSD, that used to seem just out of reach.

EMDR Therapy and Somatic Psychology: Interventions to Enhance Embodiment in Trauma Treatment Arielle Schwartz, Barb Maiberger, Robin Shapiro W. W. Norton & Company, Incorporated, New York, 2018
