Byzantine Churches in Constantinople Author: Alexander Van Millingen The church of S. Mark at Venice was built on the plan of the Holy Apostles. The Story of the Soil Cyril G. Hopkins [Hopkins, Cyril G.] BoD – Books on Demand, 2017
Truth is better than fiction; and this true story of the soil is written in co-operation with the Press of America and in competition with popular fiction. The scenes described exist; the references given can all be found and verified; and the data quoted are exact, although some of the story dates antedate the scientific data. As a rule the names employed are substitutes, but the general localities are as specified. If the Story of the Soil should ever fall into the hands of any individual who suspects that he has contributed to its information, the author begs that he will accept as belonging to himself every gracious attribute and take it for granted that anything of opposite savor was due to autosuggestion. **

The Astral Plane C. W. Leadbeater BoD – Books on Demand, 2018
Reference to the astral plane, or Kâmaloka as it is called in Sanskrit, has frequently been made by Theosophical writers, and a good deal of information on the subject of this realm of nature is to be found scattered here and there in our books; but there is not, so far as I am aware, any single volume to which one can turn for a complete summary of the facts at present known to us about this interesting region. The object of this manual is to collect and make some attempt to arrange this scattered information, and also to supplement it slightly in cases where new facts have come to our knowledge. It must be understood that any such additions are only the result of the investigations of a few explorers, and must not, therefore, be taken as in any way authoritative, but are given simply for what they are worth. On the other hand every precaution in our power has been taken to ensure accuracy, no fact, old or new, being admitted to this manual unless it has been confirmed by the testimony of at least two independent trained investigators among ourselves, and has also been passed as correct by older students whose knowledge on these points is necessarily much greater than ours. It is hoped, therefore, that this account of the astral plane, though it cannot be considered as quite complete, may yet be found reliable as far as it goes.

Quiet Talks About Jesus S. D. Gordon [Gordon, S. D. (Samuel Dickey)] BoD – Books on Demand, 2003
Here is a wonderful book about Jesus- who He really is and why God sent Him to this planet. With stimulating imagination, Gordon paints a remarkable portrait of this Jesus, the Man from Galilee. You will see Him as you have never seen Him before and understand Him more wonderfully than you ever thought possible. This classic writing describes His love, His mercy, and His plan for you as the unique object of his "wooing" love. You can actually feel His presence within as you read the yearning of His heart for you. Quiet Talks About Jesus, originally written in 1906, is one of the first books in the popular Quiet Talks series.

Echo on a Chip - Secure Embedded Systems in Cryptography: A New Perception for the Next Generation of Micro-Controllers handling Encryption for Mobile Messaging Mancy A. Wake, Dorothy Hibernack, Lucas Lullaby BoD – Books on Demand, Norderstedt, 2020
Based on the historical development of so-called Crypto Chips, the current Transformation of Cryptography shows numerous changes, innovations and new process designs in the field of Cryptography, which also need to be integrated in a hardware design of Microprocessors and Microcontrollers for a Secure Embedded System. Using the example of the encrypting Echo protocol, a design of a hardware architecture based on three Chips is presented: The central Echo Chip #1 represents a "Trusted Execution Environment" (TEE), which is not connected to the Internet for the conversion processes from plain text to cipher text and is supposed to remain quasi original, to prevent software injections or possible uploads of copies of the plain text. The technical specifications of all three microprocessors are described in detail. The established paradigm of separation is recognized as a security feature and discussed as a perception for a Next Generation of Microcontrollers in the field of Mobile Messaging under the technical term "Going the Extra Mile". This security architecture is then discussed in the context of seven different current risk cases with the consolidated result that the well-known OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) Model is expanded to the Secure Architecture Model, abbreviated SAM.

DIALOGICAL SUPERVISION : creating a work culture where everybody learns Kai Alhanen, Anne Kansanaho, Olli-Pekka Ahtiainen, Marko Kangas, Katriina Lehti, Tiina Soini, Jarkko Soininen BoD - Books on Demand - Finnland, 1. Auflage, Norderstedt, 2020
Dialogical Supervision: Creating A Work Culture Where Everybody Learns is a guide to professional supervision in various fields of expertise. It is written especially for professional supervisors and students of supervision, and yet it also provides insights and tools for those team leaders and managers who act as "everyday supervisors" for their employees. The work is composed as a practical handbook which offers a coherent theoretical description and practical implementation of a new kind of professional supervision. The book addresses the fundamentals of supervision: learning, reflection and dialogical interaction. It then presents guidelines for practical implementation, diverse orientations, and methods of supervision. The work also includes sections dealing with various types of supervision relationships: individual, community, group and managerial supervision. The different chapters of the book also contain several practical methods which together form a "toolbox for supervisors". The basic premise of the book is to emphasise the importance of dialogue in creating a fundamentally different work culture to that which predominates. In celebrating economic growth, ruthless competition and individual achievement, this culture has led to an increasing fragmentation of people's experiences and the loss of their sense of agency. At the same time, we need to solve extremely complex problems that require unprecedented creativity. In order to deal successfully with the challenges of modern work, we need to utilise the skills and knowledge of every single employee. This book offers clear methods for this to be realised.

Common Childhood Diseases - Diagnosis, Prevention and Management (Dec 11, 2024)_(0854667768)_(IntechOpen).pdf Enkhsaikhan Purevjav, Stephanie Storgion, Timothy Dean Minniear BoD – Books on Demand, 2024
Along with remarkable improvements in prevention, diagnostics, and medical care, common diseases of childhood have evolved considerably. Preventable childhood diseases have declined remarkably in newborns, young children, and adolescents because of scientific and medical discoveries in vaccine and drug development, newborn diagnostic screening, genetics, and genomics. Varied imaging, telemonitoring, and interventional technologies have been successfully implemented to detect early and treat effectively childhood diseases that traditionally had been thought of as devastating and deadly. Along with these, changes in environment, urbanization and pollution, sedentary lifestyles, and overload of the Internet and social media have impacted the health and wellbeing of our children, gradually increasing the prevalence and morbidity of obesity, drug-resistant infections, cancer, neurological conditions, and autism spectrum disorders in the pediatric population. This book explores select neurological, hematological, rheumatological, and nephrological diseases that we editors consider to have substantially evolved over the past decades.

A gecko for luck : 18 years in Indonesia Horst H Geerken; Bill McCann BoD – Books on Demand, May 05, 2015
The large house gecko, called tokek, is regarded as a lucky talisman by the Indonesians. When its 'Toke' resounds in the night, they count how many times it calls, both in town and in the country, and this number determines how lucky the call is. Only an odd number is lucky: seven is already quite good, but nine promises the peak of success and good fortune. The author has spent 18 years in Indonesia and helped the young independent country in its development and construction on the sectors of telecommunications, electrotechnical and solar power engineering. Amusing and interesting events from his private and professional life during those years make this book historically interesting and also humorous reading for anyone who is interested in getting to know Indonesia off the beaten tourist track. The author and his famliy had tokeks in both their house in Jakarta and their weekend home in Carita. He often has heard nine successive calls, and the prophecy was fulfilled: Indonesia has brought the author luck and happiness

By now, both sides have realized: Italy is a dead end—there is no route from there into Central Europe. That is why, since the end of 1943, all eyes have turned to France. It is there that the decisive Allied invasion is expected to take place—and it is there that it must be repelled, or the war will be lost for Germany.

lgli/Immortal Souls_ A Treatise on Human Nature.pdf
Immortal Souls: A Treatise on Human Nature Edward Feser Hüntelmann, Rafael, Dr.. Editiones Scholasticae, 2024
Immortal Souls provides as ambitious and complete a defense of Aristotelian-Thomistic philosophical anthropology as is currently in print. Among the many topics covered are the reality and unity of the self, the immateriality of the intellect, the freedom of the will, the immortality of the soul, the critique of artificial intelligence, and the refutation of both Cartesian and materialist conceptions of human nature. Along the way, the main rival positions in contemporary philosophy and science are thoroughly engaged with and rebutted. Reviews "Edward Feser's book is a Summa of the nature of the human person: it is, therefore, both a rather long – but brilliant – monograph, and a valuable work for consultation. Each of the human faculties discussed is treated comprehensively, with a broad range of theories considered for and against, and, although Feser's conclusions are firmly Thomistic, one can derive great benefit from his discussions even if one is not a convinced hylomorphist. Every philosopher of mind would benefit from having this book within easy reach." Howard Robinson, Professor Emeritus of Philosophy, Central European University “Feser defends the Aristotelian and Thomistic system, effectively bringing it into dialogue with recent debates and drawing on some of the best of both analytic (Kripke, Searle, BonJour, Fodor) and phenomenological (Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty, Dreyfus) philosophy. He deftly rebuts objections to Thomism, both ancient and modern. Anyone working today on personal identity, the unity of the self, the semantics of cognition, free will, or qualia will need to engage with the analysis and arguments presented here.” Robert C. Koons, Professor of Philosophy, University of Texas at Austin.

EASY WOODTURNING PROJECTS : woodturning utensils Steve Adams BoD – Books on Demand, 1. Auflage, Norderstedt, 2021
The more we like to touch an object, the longer it can be found in our household. Nowadays, these wooden objects often are replaced by plastic resulting in a limited lifespan as a standard. How delightful it is when an old chisel finds its way into your hands at a garage sale, its handle polished by touch and its frayed end telling of heavy use. That is exactly the feeling this book wants to convey - to recall and revive forgotten utensils!

lgli/Tatiana Zhurzhenko - Borderlands into Bordered Lands. Geopolitics of Identity in Post-Soviet Ukraine (2010, BoD – Books on Demand).pdf
Borderlands Into Bordered Lands. Geopolitics of Identity in Post-Soviet Ukraine : With a Foreword by Dieter Segert Tatiana Zhurzhenko; with a foreword by Dieter Segert BoD – Books on Demand, ibidem-Verlag Jessica Haunschild / Christian Schon GbR, Stuttgart, 2010
Since 1991, post-Soviet political elites in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus have been engaged in nation- as well as state-building. They have tried to strengthen territorial sovereignty and national security, re-shape collective identities and re-narrate national histories. Former Soviet republics have become new neighbours, partners and competitors searching for geopolitical identity in the new Eastern Europe, " i.e. the countries left outside the enlarged EU. Old paradigms such as "Eurasia" or "East Slavic civilisation" have been re-invented and politically instrumentalized in the international relations and domestic politics of these countries. At the same time, these old concepts and myths have been contested and challenged by pro-Western elites. The main subject of this book is the construction of post-Soviet borders and their political, social and cultural implications. It focuses on the exemplary case of the Ukrainian-Russian border, approaching it as a social construct and a discursive phenomenon. The book shows how the symbolic meanings of and narratives on this border contribute to national identity formation and shape the images of the neighbouring countries as "the Other" thereby shedding new light on the role of border disputes between Ukraine and Russia in bilateral relations, in EU neighbourhood politics and in domestic political conflicts. The study also addresses "border making" on the regional level, focusing on the cross-border cooperation between Kharkiv and Belgorod and on the dilemmas of a Euroregion "in absence of Europe." Finally, it reflects the everyday experiences of the residents of near-border villages and shows how national and local identities are performed at, and transformed by, the new border -- Provided by Publisher

Barry Lyndon Thackeray, William Makepeace BoD – Books on Demand, 2015
Barry Lyndon is a picaresque novel by William Makepeace Thackeray, first published in serial form in 1844, about a member of the Irish gentry trying to become a member of the English aristocracy. Thackeray, based the novel on the life and exploits of the Anglo-Irish rake and fortune-hunter Andrew Robinson Stoney. Stanley Kubrick later adapted the novel into the movie Barry Lyndon. Unlike the film, the novel is narrated by Barry himself, who functions as a quintessentially unreliable narrator, perpetually boasting and not realising the bad light in which he casts himself.**

Language change for the worse Dankmar W. Enke, Larry M. Hyman, Johanna Nichols, Guido Seiler, Thilo Weber, Andreas Hölzl BoD – Books on Demand, 2024
Many theories hold that language change, at least on a local level, is driven by a need for improvement. The present volume explores to what extent this assumption holds true, and whether there is a particular type of language change that we dub language change for the worse, i.e., change with a worsening effect that cannot be explained away as a side-effect of improvement in some other area of the linguistic system. The chapters of the volume, written by leading junior and senior scholars, combine expertise in diachronic and historical linguistics, typology, and formal modelling. They focus on different aspects of grammar (phonology, morphosyntax, semantics) in a variety of language families (Germanic, Romance, Austronesian, Bantu, Jê-Kaingang, Wu Chinese, Greek, Albanian, Altaic, Indo-Aryan, and languages of the Caucasus). The volume contributes to ongoing theoretical debates and discussions between linguists with different theoretical orientations. Erscheinungsdatum: 05.09.2024

The Serpent Symbol in Tradition Charles Dailey BoD – Books on Demand, 2022
Serpent and dragon symbolism is ubiquitous in the art and mythology of premodern cultures around the world. Over the centuries, conflicting hypotheses have been proposed to interpret this symbolism which, while illuminating, have proved insufficient to the task of revealing a singular meaning for the vast majority of examples. In The Serpent Symbol in Tradition, Dr. Dailey argues that, in what the symbolist Rene Guenon and the historian of religions Mircea Eliade have called 'traditional' or 'archaic' societies, the serpent/dragon transculturally symbolizes matter, a state of being that is constituted by the perception of the physical world as chaotic in comparison to what traditional peoples believed to be the 'higher' meta-physical source of the physical world or 'nature.' In the course of Dr. Dailey's investigations into the meaning of traditional serpent/dragon symbolism, the following contributions have proved invaluable: 1) Guénon's interpretation of the language of traditional symbolism and the metaphysics that underlies it, as well as his interpretation of the terminology of the 'Hindu Doctrines,' 2) Eliade's interpretation of traditional/archaic societies by means of his concepts of chaos, creation, Axis Mundi (World Axis), and 'Sacred and Profane,' and 3) the insights of various other researchers of serpent/dragon symbolism. Beyond purporting to resolve some of the mystery of the ancient and varied symbolism of the serpent/dragon, The Serpent Symbol in Tradition strives to serve the related functions of interpreting the symbolic meanings of a wide variety of premodern artifacts and narratives as well as providing a study of the origination, and ancient human awareness, of the mentioned state of matter.

Alexander the Great Jacob Abbott BoD – Books on Demand, Norderstedt, 2018
Alexander the Great died when he was quite young. He was but thirty-two years of age when he ended his career, and as he was about twenty when he commenced it, it was only for a period of twelve years that he was actually engaged in performing the work of his life. Napoleon was nearly three times as long on the great field of human action. Notwithstanding the briefness of Alexander's career, he ran through, during that short period, a very brilliant series of exploits, which were so bold, so romantic, and which led him into such adventures in scenes of the greatest magnificence and splendor, that all the world looked on with astonishment then, and mankind have continued to read the story since, from age to age, with the greatest interest and attention. The secret of Alexander's success was his character. He possessed a certain combination of mental and personal attractions, which in every age gives to those who exhibit it a mysterious and almost unbounded ascendency over all within their influence. Alexander was characterized by these qualities in a very remarkable degree. He was finely formed in person, and very prepossessing in his manners. He was active, athletic, and full of ardor and enthusiasm in all that he did. At the same time, he was calm, collected, and considerate in emergencies requiring caution, and thoughtful and far-seeing in respect to the bearings and consequences of his acts. He formed strong attachments, was grateful for kindnesses shown to him, considerate in respect to the feelings of all who were connected with him in any way, faithful to his friends, and generous toward his foes. In a word, he had a noble character, though he devoted its energies unfortunately to conquest and war. He lived, in fact, in an age when great personal and mental powers had scarcely any other field for their exercise than this. He entered upon his career with great ardor, and the position in which he was placed gave him the opportunity to act in it with prodigious effect.
