From the Files of the Immanent Foundation Norman Finkelstein Dos Madres Press, First edition, Loveland, Ohio, 2018
Poetry. "FROM THE FILES OF THE IMMANENT FOUNDATION is a beautiful work of hesitant wonder, coaxing stark narration, precept, adage and a strange, winsome yet doleful music out of bureaucratic and documentarian argot and protocol. Its long run of quirks and particulars makes it also a work of rash but strict invention, both an inquiry into invention and its anthem or hymn, its exemplum. Immanence's openly secret accord with emanation seems to be at issue or at least at work. I read it wishing it would never end."--Nathaniel Mackey

Passing Over Finkelstein, Norman , 1954- Marsh Hawk Pr; Marsh Hawk Press, 1st ed., East Rockaway, NY, United States, 2007
Poetry. Born in New York City, Finkelstein is a poet and literary critic. His Previous books include Restless Messengers, and the three-volume serial poem TRACK. He has written extensively about modern and postmodern poetry, and about Jewish Literature. "After the Track Trilogy, one of the most brilliant and audacious works in recent American literature, what a pleasure to discover these earlier poems by Norman Finkelstein. Lyrical, probing, and always finely wrought, there is a tenderness in this book that can break your heart"--Paul Auster.

On Mount Vision: Forms Of The Sacred In Contemporary American Poetry (contemp North American Poetry) by Norman Finkelstein Iowa City: University of Iowa Press, Contemporary North American poetry series, Contemporary North American poetry series, Iowa City, Iowa, 2010
Plumbing what the poet Michael Palmer calls the dimension of the Spirit, with that troublesome, rebarbative capital letter, Norman Finkelsteins On Mount Vision asks how and why the sacred has remained a basic concern of contemporary experimental poets in our secular age. By charting the wandering, together and apart, of poetry and belief, Finkelstein illustrates the rich tapestry formed by the warp and woof of poetry, and the play of Gnosticism, antinomianism, spiritualism, and shamanism, which have commonly been regarded as heretical and sometimes been outright suppressed. This beautifully written work begins with an overview of the spiritual problematics found in nineteenth- and early twentieth-century American poetry. Traveling slightly outside of the realm of the contemporary, Finkelsteins discussions of Emerson, Whitman, and Eliot yield to close readings of the works of Robert Duncan, Jack Spicer, Ronald Johnson, Michael Palmer, Susan Howe, Nathaniel Mackey, and Armand Schwerner. In restoring verse to its place alongside scripture, Finkelstein reminds us why the sacred remains crucial to our understanding of postmodern American poetry.

The Ritual Of New Creation: Jewish Tradition And Contemporary Literature (suny Series In Modern Jewish Literature And Culture) Finkelstein, Norman , 1954- State University Of New York Press, State University of New York Press, Albany, 1992
Finkelstein examines a wide range of recent Jewish writing, including poetry, fiction, and literary criticism, in order to determine the changes such writing has undergone in its exposure to modern and postmodern conditions of culture. Featuring discussions of such figures as Gershom Scholem, Harold Bloom, George Steiner, Cynthia Ozick, and John Hollander, The Ritual of New Creation explores certain themes that recur in modern Jewish literature: the relation of the sacred to the secular in Jewish writing; the role of loss and exile; “wandering meaning” and textual transformation. This is a book for all readers interested in modern Jewish literature, but especially for readers concerned with literary theory, the relations of text and commentary, and the fate of literary traditions in the contemporary and postmodern cultural milieu. <div class="bookitem

Ritual of New Creation, The : Jewish Tradition and Contemporary Literature Finkelstein, Norman , 1954- Albany: State University of New York Press, State University of New York Press, Albany, 1992
In The Ritual of New Creation, Norman Finkelstein has written the best book of its kind, a book that will revolutionize not only the way Jewish intellectual life is understood in America but the way in which that grab bag of heterogeneous novels, plays, and poems that we call 'Jewish literature' will henceforth be interpreted and valued. It is not too much to call The Ritual of New Creation revolutionary, nor too much to think of it as the next absolutely required text for anyone who wants to come to grips with the issue of Jewish identity as an intellectual construction rather than as an habitual response or a nostalgic tour through memory and memorabilia. "I find this book brilliantly argued throughout and admirably sustained. Through closely-reasoned exegesis and dialectic, Finkelstein scarcely misses a beat. He has a subtle mind that is capable of grasping not only the dialectics of self-doubt in which Harold Bloom's thought is saturated but also the nuances of shifting and flexible argument that characterize Walter Benjamin's. Moreover, his prose is fully equal to the task of understanding: supple and muscular where close reasoning is called for; taut and epigrammatic where concision and summary are demanded." -- Mark Shechner, State University of New York, Buffalo Finkelstein examines a wide range of recent Jewish writing, including poetry, fiction, and literary criticism, in order to determine the changes such writing has undergone in its exposure to modern and postmodern conditions of culture. Like a Dark Rabbi. Modern poetry and the Jewish literary imagination Norman Finkelstein [Cincinnati, Ohio]: Hebrew Union College Press, Cincinnati, Ohio], Ohio, 2019
"Wallace Stevens' "dark rabbi," from his poem "Le Monocle de Mon Oncle," provides a title for this collection of essays on the "lordly study" of modern Jewish poetry in English. Including chapters on such poets as Charles Reznikoff, Allen Grossman, Chana Bloch, and Michael Heller, this volume explores the tensions between religious and secular worldviews in recent Jewish poetry, the often conflicted linguistic and cultural matrix from which this poetry arises, and the complicated ways in which Jewish tradition shapes the sensibilities of not only Jewish, but also non-Jewish, poets. Finkelstein, described as "one of American poetry's indispensible makers" (Lawrence Joseph), whose previous critical work has been called "the exemplary study of the religious aspect of the works of contemporary American poets" (Peter O'Leary), considers large literary and cultural trends while never losing sight of the particular formal powers of individual poems. In Like a Dark Rabbi, he offers a passionate argument for the importance of Jewish-American poetry to modern Jewish culture, and to American poetry more broadly, as it engages with the contradictions of contemporary life." -- Provided by publisher

Lyrical interference : essays on poetics Norman G Finkelstein Spuyten Duyvil Publishing, Place of publication not identified, 2004
<br> Cultural Writing. Literary Criticism. Poetics. "The wild is always unprecedented, but never inconsistent. This is the knowledge that makesAmerican scholarship American. Norman Finkelstein offers unprecedented insights here whose factsconsist of one Soul purpose: Friendship. Here the imagination of poetry is Friendship on the line. Anddriving that line are energies of the inevitable (if we are to live, Friendship is inevitable): motions outward;an outstretched hand; a goddamn big car bought and paid for lovingly. These energies speak simply, anddoing so, they accomplish new simplicities which Finkelstein boldly proposes as the most radical virtuesof poetic art. Read and see"--from the introduction by Donald Revell.

Powers: Track Volume Three Norman Finkelstein New York City: Spuyten Duyvil, Track / Norman Finkelstein, vol. 3, New York City, 2005
Poetry. POWERS: TRACK VOLUME THREE is third and last volume of the serial poem begun in Track and continued in Columns. "Paradise is the track we're following in this poem, the spoor we're on, the prey we're tracking. . . . Reworking a poetic midrash in the light of Jabes, availing himself of a deceptively simple poetic line which has antecedents in Michael Palmer's recent work, and then referring to scriptural hermeneutics throughout, Finkelstein has created an amazing new kind of poem: as tensile as it is frangible, as spiritually reviving as it is philosophically zeroing" - Peter O'Leary. "The act of reading, after all, always leaves "some other's / dreams" at least partially "enfolded in the self." Finkelstein's gift, in Track, lies in his ability to stay half self-conscious and half spellbound by those others' dreams"--Eric Selinger.

Tuer l'espoir Norman Finkelstein [Finkelstein, Norman] ADEN - 2003, 2003

" The Nation, 13 novembre 2000.

Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung

Gaza: An Inquest into Its Martyrdom (2018) Norman Finkelstein, Norman G. Finkelstein University of California Press, 1st ed., Jan. 2018, 2018
"In its comprehensive sweep, deep probing and acute critical analysis, Finkelstein's study stands alone."—Noam Chomsky "No one who ventures an opinion on Gaza . . . is entitled to do so without taking into account the evidence in this book." —The Intercept The Gaza Strip is among the most densely populated places in the world. More than two-thirds of its inhabitants are refugees, and more than half are under eighteen years of age. Since 2004, Israel has launched eight devastating "operations" against Gaza's largely defenseless population. Thousands have perished, and tens of thousands have been left homeless. In the meantime, Israel has subjected Gaza to a merciless illegal blockade. What has befallen Gaza is a man-made humanitarian disaster. Based on scores of human rights reports, Norman G. Finkelstein's new book presents a meticulously researched inquest into Gaza's martyrdom. He shows that although Israel has justified its assaults in the name of self-defense, in fact these actions constituted flagrant violations of international law. But Finkelstein also documents that the guardians of international law—from Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch to the UN Human Rights Council—ultimately failed Gaza. One of his most disturbing conclusions is that, after Judge Richard Goldstone's humiliating retraction of his UN report, human rights organizations succumbed to the Israeli juggernaut. Finkelstein's magnum opus is both a monument to Gaza's martyrs and an act of resistance against the forgetfulness of history.
