¿Es auténtica la Sábana Santa de Turín? ¿La imagen impresa es la de Cristo crucificado? Durante más de siete siglos, este sudario ha sido venerado por los creyentes. Pero en 1988 la prueba de carbono 14 demostró que la tela no podía ser anterior a 1260. Nuevas técnicas han permitido a los autores de este libro precisar su lugar y fecha de origen. También han revelado la identidad de la figura que aparece en él. No es la de Cristo, pero tampoco es una falsificación, es la del último líder de la Orden del Temple: Jacques de Molay. Tras la destrucción de Jerusalén (70 d. C.) algunos sacerdotes supervivientes se refugiaron en Europa a la espera de un nuevo Mesías. Un milenio más tarde, sus descendientes volvieron a la Ciudad Santa para fundar la orden de los Caballeros del Temple. Allí recuperaron las enseñanzas ocultas bajo las ruinas del Templo; para protegerlas diseñaron las crípticas cartas del tarot. En 1307 fueron perseguidos y diezmados. Su último líder fue ajusticiado en una extraña parodia de la Crucifixión y su imagen agonizante se materializó en la sábana que lo había envuelto. Cuando la peste devastó Europa, la Iglesia estaba más debilitada que nunca, y el deseo de un nuevo salvador, como anunciaban antiguas profecías, se apoderó de las gentes. Ahora tenían la imagen de ese salvador. Así nació el culto a la Sábana Santa.
