Stretching Anatomy Arnold G. Nelson & Jouko Kokkonen [Nelson, Arnold G. & Kokkonen, Jouko] Human Kinetics Publishers, 2006
See inside every stretch--and maximize flexibility! Stretching Anatomy will arm you with the knowledge to increase range of motion, supplement training, enhance recovery, and maximize efficiency of movement. You'll also gain a detailed understanding of how each stretch affects your body. Stretching Anatomy is like having an X-ray of each stretch, only better. Not only do you see full-color illustrations of the muscles in action, but you also find out how changes in position can alter the muscle emphasis and difficulty and how variations can improve safety and effectiveness. Each exercise includes detailed instruction on how to stretch, when to stretch, primary and secondary muscle emphasis, and which muscles are activated for support. Stretching programs provide three levels of difficulty, including light stretching that can be used as a warm-up or to aid in recovery from soreness or injury. And summary movement tables show how to customize stretching programs to focus on key problem areas. Whether it is increased flexibility or reduced muscle soreness or tension, Stretching Anatomy allows you to see and feel the benefit of proper stretching technique.

Sport Public Relations, Third Edition With HKPropel Access, offers a comprehensive examination of the value and practice of public relations in sport. Extensively updated and substantially reorganized, this third edition reflects the evolution of the field with modern applications across a wide range of media channels. The book’s topics align with the Common Professional Component topics outlined by the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA). The author team brings together significant professional and educational backgrounds in sport public relations to offer an engaging look at the full range of public relations functions. Readers will learn the importance of consistent brand communication and how to manage organizational relationships, both internal and external, to attain key strategic goals. The thorough coverage of the field is built around three common themes: Public relations is a managerial function focused on advancing the brand and engaging key stakeholders. The communications environment is continuously evolving. Community relations, employee relations, and donor relations are as critical as media relations within the sport industry. Throughout the book, there is guidance for practical application, including samples of public relations materials such as news releases and employee newsletters. Be Your Own Media sidebars highlight how sport organizations are proactively telling their stories across various media platforms. New to this edition, case studies and discussion questions serve as a foundation for additional learning. Other updates include the following: Discussion of engaging key publics through social media and other forms of digital media—such as blogs, podcasts, virtual fan communities, and video—as well as approaches to developing content, metrics for measuring success, and skills for managing media in sport An examination of customer experience (CX) and how to enhance those relationships by defining customer touch points and mapping the customer journey Considerations for social media usage during crisis communication, with modern examples of effective and ineffective ways prominent sport entities have managed recent crises Also new to the third edition are related online learning aids delivered through HKPropel and designed to generate discussion and highlight the opportunities and challenges that exist in sport public relations. *Physical education unit plans for preschool-kindergarten Bette J. Logsdon, Luann M. Alleman, Sue Ann Straits, David E. Belka, Dawn Clark Human Kinetics; Human Kinetics Publishers, Orig. ppbk., S. l. b Human Kinetics Publishers c 12/1996, 1997
Spend less time planning and more time personalizing lessons with these practical guides. Previously compiled in a two-book set titled Physical Education Teaching Units for Program Development, these highly acclaimed unit plans provide a detailed scope and sequence for an early childhood movement program and an elementary physical education program. The 135 units in these four books integrate movement concepts and skills into games, gymnastics, and dance experiences that children really enjoy. They contain clear objectives, sample assessments, and fitness activities that reflect the National Standards for Physical Education and the National Standards for Arts Education (Dance). New and experienced teachers alike can adopt the ready-to-use units as a complete instructional program or select specific units to enhance their existing curriculum. Successfully used in public and private schools in suburban, inner city, and rural areas, the units are logically arranged to build on the motor skills acquired at each student's unique stage of development. Each unit contains a progression of learning experiences, and each learning experience, in turn, is broken down into tasks that help students perform movement skills or understand movement concepts. To increase communication, learning, and motivation, the learning experiences are written in conversational, developmentally appropriate language and can be used as models for effective teaching. Written by five specialists in physical education and dance, who together have more than 100 years of teaching experience, Physical Education Unit Plans will dramatically reduce time spent in day-to-day planning and preparation and challenge students to reach their full movement potential.

Exercise and Physical Activity for Older Adults Danielle R. Bouchard Human Kinetics Publishers, 1, 20200423
Go beyond aging theories and examine the physiological and physical impacts of aging. Exercise and Physical Activity for Older Adults takes a close look at the physical implications of the aging process and how health, physical activity, and exercise interact in aging adults. With an international team of contributors composed of leading experts from across the field of gerontology, Exercise and Physical Activity for Older Adults delivers comprehensive, interdisciplinary coverage of the physical aging process and its effects on movement and exercise. Research on the physiological and physical implications of aging is presented, focusing on study outcomes and their practical application in optimizing healthy aging. Presented in an integrated and cohesive manner, this text is organized into four parts. Part I covers the theoretical foundations of biological aging, the implications of aging theories on medical research, and the social and economic impacts of demographic shifts due to population aging and global population size. Part II addresses age-related changes to the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, pulmonary, and endocrine systems. Part III covers the physical effects of aging on other dimensions of life, including balance, motor control, and physical functions. Part IV focuses on exercise and older adults, taking an in-depth look at exercise measurements and the main barriers to regular exercise. One full chapter is devoted to recommendations for optimizing health for the general public, while another chapter is focused on performance by elite older athletes who exercise beyond functional fitness. Chapter objectives, end-of-chapter summaries, and review questions highlight key concepts and promote learning retention. Behavior Check sidebars look at the impacts of aging on behavior, how behavior affects physical health and activity, and how changes in behavior can improve everyday living. Functional Fitness Checkup sidebars focus on the performance of daily movements that are vital for older adults who want to maintain their physical independence. Putting It Into Practice elements provide examples of real-life application of the concepts presented, facilitating a practical understanding of how to use the content to benefit clients. A definitive resource for students and health care professionals who study physical aging, conduct clinical research, or work with older adults as clients and patients, Exercise and Physical Activity for Older Adults helps readers understand the aging process and its effects on movement, exercise, and other dimensions of life.

Designing Preschool Movement Programs Stephen W. Sanders Human Kinetics Publishers, Box 5076, Champaign, IL 61825-5076, Champaign, IL, Illinois, 1992
Designing Preschool Movement Programs will help anyone develop and run a successful movement programme for children ages 3 through 5. It's both a detailed guide for developing a preschool movement curriculum and a resource containing developmentally appropriate movement activities. Part 1 emphasises the importance of movement in educating young children and tells how early exposure to structured movement activities benefits children throughout their lives. There is a curriculum foundation for establishing a preschool movement programme in any setting, including day care centres, community centres, and elementary schools. Part II of Designing Preschool Movement Programs is the activities portion of the book. There are nearly 100 developmentally appropriate activities, organised by skill themes. Tested in early childhood settings for 8 years, these activities are appropriate for teachers to use in any type of class, whether it's indoors or outdoors, in the classroom or in the gym. Through these activities, children will develop movement skills - hopping, skipping, jumping, rolling, balancing, throwing, and many more. And the activities emphasise proper form and technique, so that children can learn skills without using speed and accuracy as the only measures of success. Part III brings it all together, organising the movement activities into a curriculum. There are 8 weeks of sample lessons plans designed to help teachers plan their own lessons. The examples are planned in segments of 30 minutes, but they can easily be made longer or shorter to fit any situation.

Physical Education Unit Plans for Grades 3-4: Learning Experiences in Games, Gymnastics, and Dance Bette J. Logsdon, Luann M. Alleman, Sue Ann Straits, David E. Belka, Dawn Clark Human Kinetics Publishers; Human Kinetics, Learning experiences in games, gymnastics, and dance, 2nd ed, Champaign, 1997

Attention and focus in dance : enhancing power, precision, and artistry Clare Guss-West; Human Kinetics Publishers, Champaign, IL, 2021
The Western approach to dance is largely focused on control and mastery of technique, both of which are certainly necessary skills for improving performance. But mindful attention, despite its critical role in high performance, has gotten short shrift—until now. Attention and Focus in Dance, a how-to book rooted in the 20 years of attentional focus findings of researcher Gabriele Wulf, will help dancers unlock their power and stamina reserves, enabling efficient movement, heightening their sensory perception and releasing their dance potential. Author Clare Guss-West—a professional dancer, choreographer, teacher and holistic practitioner—presents a systematic, science-based approach to the mental work of dance. Her approach helps dancers hone the skills of attention, focus and self-cueing to replenish energy and enhance their physical and artistic performance. A Unique, Research-Based Approach Here is what Attention and Focus in Dance offers readers: A unique approach, connecting the foundations of Eastern movement with Western movement forms Research-based teaching practices in diverse contexts, including professional dance companies, private studios, and programmes for dancers with special needs or movement challenges Testimonies and tips from international professional dancers and dance educators who use the book’s approach in their training and teaching A dance-centric focus that can be easily integrated into existing training and teaching practice, in rehearsal, or in rehabilitation contexts to provide immediate and long-term benefits Guss-West explores attentional focus techniques for dancers, teachers and dance health care practitioners, making practical connections between research, movement theory and day-to-day dance practice. “Many dancers are using excessive energy deployment and significant counterproductive effort, and that can lead to a global movement dysfunction, lack of stamina and an increased risk of injury,” says Guss-West. “Attentional focus training is the most relevant study that sport science and Eastern-movement practice can bring to dance.” Book Organisation The text is organised into two parts. Part I guides dancers in looking at the attentional challenges and information overload that many professional dancers suffer from. It outlines the need for a systematic attention and focus strategy, and it explains how scientific research on attentional focus relates to dance practice. This part also examines the ways in which Eastern-movement principles intersect with and complement scientific findings, and it examines how the Eastern and scientific concepts can breathe new life into basic dance elements such as posture, turnout and port de bras. Attention and focus techniques are included for replenishing energy and protecting against energy depletion and exhaustion. Part II presents attention and focus strategies for teaching, self-coaching and cueing. It addresses attentional focus cues for beginners and for more advanced dancers and professionals, and it places attentional focus in the broader context of holistic teaching strategies. Maximising Dance Potential “Whether cueing others or yourself, cueing for high performance is an art,” Guss-West says. “Readers will discover how to format cues and feedback to facilitate effective neuromuscular response and enhance dancer recall of information and accessibility while dancing.” Attention and Focus in Dance offers an abundance of research-backed concepts and inspirational ideas that can help dancers in their learning and performance. This book aids readers in filtering information and directing their focus for optimal physical effect. Ultimately, it guides dancers and teachers in being the best version of themselves and maximising their potential in dance.

Kettlebell Strength Training Anatomy Michael Hartle, Pavel Tsatsouline Human Kinetics Publishers, S.l, 2023
Reap the benefits of kettlebell training with Kettlebell Strength Training Anatomy! Used increasingly for strength training over the last decade, kettlebells enable you to mimic real-life movements, making it an extremely functional form of exercise. Unlike a dumbbell or barbell, where the weight is evenly distributed on both ends of the handle, the kettlebell has an asymmetrical design and offset center of gravity. Compensating for the uneven load requires that you put forth increased effort as you execute the exercise, thereby increasing strength, mobility, and stability. In Kettlebell Strength Training Anatomy, veteran chiropractic physician and former nationally ranked powerlifter Michael Hartle provides an inside look at kettlebell training. Breaking down the muscles and tendons used in each exercise, Hartle helps you better understand the link between muscle development and performance. From the deadlift to the snatch, you’ll find step-by-step instructions on how to execute the exercise, the muscles involved, the anatomical focus, and the level of difficulty. You’ll also find variations that allow you to modify the exercise to better fit your specific needs. Over 100 full-color anatomical illustrations depict the muscles used in the exercises. The Exercise Focus element shows how the exercise translates to a specific sport or activity. And an entire chapter of mobility exercises will help you reestablish neuromuscular patterns needed in your training session to help you move better and prepare yourself for further training. With comprehensive coverage and expert insights, Kettlebell Strength Training Anatomy takes the guesswork out of training and provides a blueprint for developing strength, increasing power, and improving mobility. It is the ultimate resource for optimizing your kettlebell training.Earn continuing education credits/units! A continuing education exam that uses this book is also available.
