Energies : material, vital, cosmic Bennett, John G., John G. Bennett, J. G. Bennett Charles Town, W. Va.: Claymont Communications, Charles Town, W. Va, West Virginia, 1989
A series of public lectures presented in 1956 in London, and published in volume form with additional material in 1964. Bennetts Theory of Universal Energies was first presented in his great work THE DRAMATIC UNIVERSE. In this new book he has written a popular but complete account which can be understood by those without specialized scientific knowledge or training who are nevertheless interested in scientific interpretations of personal experience. He shows how depth psychology, mysticism and religious experience connect with modern theories of Energy, Field Forces and Vital Structures, and the later chapters devoted to Consciousness, Creativity and Love open new vistas towards understanding man and the universe as a complete harmonious structure. The book contains hitherto unpublished results of the researches by Mr. Bennett and his colleagues at the Institute for the Comparative Study of History, Philosophy and the Sciences. Although the original lectures were presented after the publication of the first volume of "The Dramatic Universe", and before the author's introduction to the Subud practice, the author draws heavily on elements of G. I. Gurdjieff's teaching. When the lectures were published in 1964, the author had spent four years intensively involved with Subud, and had already left the Brotherhood, had been converted to Catholicism and encountered three teachers who would for different reasons assume a pivotal position in the author's life - the Shivapuri Baba, in India, Hasan Shushud in Turkey and Idries Shah in England. This volume is numbered 12 in the series of The Collected Works of J.G. Bennett. The publication policy applied to this series is to make no alterations or updates to the original text, nor are footnotes included, unless added by the author himself or original editor. The first edition of this book was made by Coombe Springs Press, which was low-budget facility operating with untrained printers or publishers and typesetting was with the use of an IBM Executive electric typewriter. The graphics included in the original edition were hand-drawn and somewhat crude and have been recreated using modern technology, but not altered in style or content.

Creation (studies From The Dramatic Universe, No. 3) John G. Bennett, J.G. Bennett Books, Studies from the dramatic universe ;, no. 3, lst Bennet Book ed., Santa Fe, NM, New Mexico, 1998
One of the most important and revolutionary ideas in Bennett's great work The Dramatic Universe is that man lives in many worlds, worlds divided not by distance but by existing under quite different kinds of laws. It is the very fact that we exist in many worlds that makes human transformation possible. To give expression to the insight into many worlds is a very difficult task, and conventional language can hardly convey the notions that are required. We have to take into account the fact that, for most of us, our experience and, to an even greater degree, our thinking, is almost wholly that of the material, determined world. In Creation Bennett gives us his vision of the worlds in a way that is relevant to the experience of man. From his picture of the Conditioned and the Unconditioned worlds he has taken us forward in his view of the Creation, into the realms where the worlds communicate, and he has shown that at the very center is the mystery of life. This is a book that will repay careful study, and the reader who follows what is said will gain more than the usual assimilation of information. He will actually begin to see differently and there will grow in his feelings the need to contact the mystery of life directly.

Enneagram Studies John G. Bennett , J.G. Samuel Weiser, INC, Rev. and expanded ed., York Beach, Me, Maine, 1983
Gurdjieff first introduced the enneagram to his pupils in 1916. It was presented as a universal symbol for understanding how a process in time could become organized to become an evolutionary event. Such a process is no longer “in” time but creates its own time and becomes relatively immortal as a living structure.Compiled from conversations that took place between John Bennett and his students at the International Academy for Continuous Education in England from 1971 to 1974, and with independent contributions from some of his pupils, Enneagram Studies is a unique collection of lucid explanations and applications of this universal symbol. From the transformation of the Biosphere to the setting up of a scientific experiment; from manufacturing to aesthetic development; from the preparation of a meal to “The Sermon on the Mount,” the enneagram is shown to be a key to understanding the very structure of intelligence itself.

Principally developed by Oscar Ichazo and Claudio Naranjo, it is also partly based on earlier teachings of G. I. Gurdjieff. The typology defines nine personality types (sometimes referred to as "enneatypes"), which are represented by the points of a geometric figure called an enneagram, which also indicates some of the connections between the types. There are different schools of thought among Enneagram theorists about some aspects of how it is understood.

Man and His Nature (Dramatic Universe, Vol 3) John G. Bennett Claymont Communications, Dramatic Universe, Vol 3, Rev, 1987
This third volume of The Dramatic Universe is to appear at the same time as the fourth and last volume of a work which has been one of my main interests for more than a third of a century. It has been very hard to bring the work to a stop so that the results could be published. This is in part due to a temperamental inability to let well alone, but also and more significantly to a characteristic of the period in which we live. This characteristic is discussed in the last chapter of the work, where I refer to the explosion of progress that is coming in every field, and that has gone out of man's control. When this work was started thirty-five years ago, many notions that I had received from Gurdjieff and other traditional sources about the nature of man and the universe appeared to be unsupported speculations. The progress of science and of psychology in the intervening period has made many of these notions commonplaces of present-day thought. J. G. BENNETT June 1966 ## CONTENTS PREFACE V FOURTH BOOK: SYSTEMATICS OF HUMAN EXPERIENCE PART FOURTEEN: SYSTEMS Chapter 37. the structure of the world 5 14.37.1. Organized Complexity 5 \* The four energies involved; automatic, sensitive, conscious and creative are described in Vol. II, Chapter 32 and in greater detail in J. G. Bennett's Energies, Material, Vital and Cosmic, London, 1962. The 'mind' of man is discussed in Chapter 39 below and the history of mind is the main theme of Chapters 45-48.

lgli/John G. Bennett - The Dramatic Universe IV - History.pdf
The Dramatic Universe IV - History John G. Bennett Claymont Communications, Rev edition, December 1987
This new edition of the fourth volume of The Dramatic Universe includes corrections to errata found in the previous editions, but is otherwise unchanged and includes no new material. The work can be read without reference to the earlier volumes, b but readers should be aware that many notions particularly Hyparxis, are introduced in previous volumes, where extensive explanations are included. Although Bennett's greatest teacher G.I. Gurdjieff is only briefly referenced, Bennett's argument that the greatest advances in evolution are in the development of Mind, is entirely consistent with Gurdjieff's teaching. Some readers have asserted that many of the arguments that Bennett advances are based on palaeontological research that was accepted at that time but no longer is. This criticism does not refute Bennett's central theme of the Intelligent Guidance of History.

Idiots in Paris : Diaries of Elizabeth and JG Bennett, 1949 John G. Bennett , J.G. Bennett Books, National Book Network, Santa Fe, N.M., 2008
In 1949, JG Bennett was engaged in, with Gurdjieff's help, a titanic struggle with his own nature, which he describes in these diaries. However Elizabeth's entries, which make up the bulk of this book, give witness to conditions in Gurdjieff's circle at the end of his life—an impartial description with very little'self'in it. In 2012, when there are few people left alive who met and worked with the Armenian mystic philosopher G.I. Gurdjieff (d. 1949), it is all the more important to have such an honest eyewitness account as the one Elizabeth Bennett presents here. Elizabeth's original introduction, included in this new edition, and the diaries themselves, outline far better than any later commentator can the conditions in which Gurdjieff's pupils lived as satellites revolving round a brilliant sun. This edition contains new material: unpublished entries from Elizabeth Bennett's personal Paris diary, and a 2008 Foreword by Elizabeth and John Bennett's son, George Bennett

Idiots in Paris : diaries of J.G. Bennett and Elizabeth Bennett, 1949 John G. Bennett, Elizabeth Bennett Samuel Weiser, 1st American ed., York Beach, Me, Maine, 1991
In the few months before his death in Paris on October 29th, 1949, Gurdjieffs flat in the Rue des Colonels Rnard became the centre of his teaching. Followers of his ideas came to be with him at his table. They came to work but in a way they could not expect. At the centre of what happened were the meals with their extraordinary rituals. Of these rituals, perhaps the most significant was the one known as the toast of the idiots. The science of idiotism that Gurdjieff taught portrayed the whole human situation and the hazards of attaining liberation. Day after day, Elizabeth Bennett sat with Gurdjieff, often as Director, having the task of declaring the right toast at the correct moment and proposing the health of corresponding individuals. Her observations are meticulously recorded in these diaries and woven together with J.G. Bennetts own commentary. The record of Mr. Bennetts struggles are a teaching in itself. There are few explanations, because this is how it really was. We are afforded a unique glimpse into the methods of a Master and much that can shatter our illusions about the nature of the spiritual life. Gurdjieff subtly revealed his mission to those who could know it. To each he gave according to capacity, never failing to strike at the very roots of self-deception in his followers. Elizabeth Bennett was born in 1918, and died 1991. The present work is a direct transcript of a diary she kept during the last 3 months of Gurdjieff's life in 1949. A fuller account of her own life is provided in her memoirs, entitled "My J.G. Bennett and G.I. Gurdjieff" written in the years before her own death. Although she taught many people in her later years, she refused the title of teacher and taught by the example of humility, courage and common sense in the hard and demanding path she chose for herself.

The Dramatic Universe: The Foundations of Natural Philosophy: 1 John G. Bennett Bennett Books, 1, 1997
Of the 30 or so books written by John Bennett the 4 volume Dramatic Universe is considered to be his magnum opus. In it he set himself the aim of bringing "the whole of human experience... into a coherent system capable of apprehension by... the human mind". This was not just an academic exercise, but rather a vital first step in order to answer the questions now confronting humanity of why is it that men and women exist on this earth and what values should guide our actions.

Gurdjieff : Making a New World John G Bennett Harper Colophon, Harper colophon books, CN 474, 1st Harper Colophon ed, New York, 1976, ©1973
"Gurdjieff was an extraordinary man who made a profound impact upon those who met him even casually. In the early 1920s he founded a school in France, popularly known as the 'forest philosophers,' and attracted a circle of remarkable men and women whose lives were changed by their contact with him. Nevertheless, after 1935 he almost disappeared from view and remained an enigma till the end of his life. His followers pledged themselves to perpetuate his work and to oversee the publication of his writings. Through their efforts Gurdjieff's ideas have penetrated into the world, particularly Europe and America. Books by and about him have been widely read and discussed. Appearing everywhere are groups dedicated to the study and application of Gurdjieff's teachings. Yet many have admitted that they have not fully understood his thought, especially his masterwork Beelzebub's Tales to his Grandson. Now J.G. Bennett, long both friend and pupil of Gurdjieff, has undertaken a mammoth task: to put Gurdjieff's mission into perspective and to indicate precisely how his three-volume All and Everything fits into this mission. Bennett's painstaking research into Gurdjieff's early life and the sources of his teaching gives the book a solid foundation, a way out of the subjective impasse all too typical of hooks on Gurdjieff. He offers fresh evidence that 'schools of wisdom' existed in Central Asia and suggests Gurdjieff's possible connection with these spiritual traditions. The fascinating story of Gurdjieff's own searchings forms a second thread that runs in documentary fashion through the book. Finally, Bennett interprets Gurdjieff's message and outlines the methods that he used in transmitting this message to his followers. The entire enterprise is held together by reference to 'Gurdjieff's Question' as Bennett calls it in chapter 8: 'What is the sense and significance in general of life on earth, and in particular of human life?' This question, and the answer Gurdjieff found, lead to the conclusion that Gurdjieff has left an original and workable system of beliefs and values for our own time, and that we should set ourselves at once to decipher it and put his advice into effect. [This book] makes it clear that the message of this spiritual avatar was by no means his own private affair but rather part of a greater message coming from a higher source, unaffected by passing fashion and so capable of enlightening our changing, confusing orb."--Dust jacket

Jack the Ripper : the forgotten victims Begg, Paul, author; Bennett, John G. author Yale Univ Pr, Yale University, Place of publication not identified], New Haven, CT, 2014
Experts agree that Jack the Ripper murdered five London women, but how many others did he slaughter in Britain or across the seas? The number of women murdered and mutilated by Jack the Ripper is impossible to know, although most researchers now agree on five individuals. These five canonical cases have been examined at length in Ripper literature, but other contemporary murders and attacks bearing strong resemblance to the gruesome Ripper slayings have received scant attention. These unsolved cases are the focus of this intriguing book. The volume devotes separate chapters to a dozen female victims who were attacked during the years of Jack the Rippers murder spree. Their terrible storiesa few survived to bear witness, but most died of their woundsilluminate key aspects of the Ripper case and the the gangs of Londons Whitechapel district, Victorian prostitutes, the public panic inspired by the crimes and fueled by journalists, medical practices of the day, police procedures and competency, and the probable existence of other serial killers. The book also considers crimes initially attributed to Jack the Ripper in other parts of Britain and the world, notably New York, Jamaica, and Nicaragua. In a final chapter, the drive to find the identity of the Ripper is examined, looking at contemporary and later suspects as well as several important theories, revealing the lengths to which some have gone to claim success in identifying Jack the Ripper.

Making a Soul - Human Destiny and the Debt of Our Existence John G. Bennett , J.G. Bennett Books, 1st ed., Santa Fe, N.M, New Mexico, 1995
J.G. Bennett, a brilliant and ambitious Englishman, was deeply influenced by the powerful ideas and practices of G. Gurdjieff. For most of his life, Bennett sought to develop these ideas further and to communicate them to others who were serious about questioning the meaning of their existence. This book was 1954, and while post-World War II Europe was recovering and hopeful, groups that had sprung up around Gurdjieff in the late 1940s were succumbing to sectarianism just five years after the death of their teacher. Bennett presents an extraordinary assimilation of the rich, complex system of ideas deliberately made obscure by the enigmatic Gurdjieff.
