I cattivi ragazzi ti spezzano il cuore. The boys (Vol. 1) Micalea Smeltzer Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint: Springer, 2023
The study of variational problems showing multi-scale behaviour with oscillation or concentration phenomena are a challenging topic of very active research. This volume includes lecture notes devoted to the asymptotic analysis of such problems when the multi-scale behaviour derives from scale separation in the passage from atomistic systems to continuous functionals, from competition between bulk and surface energies, from various types of homogenization processes (random, in perforated domains, on fractals), and to concentration effects in Ginzburg-Landau energies and in subcritical growth problems

Introduction to Modern Fortran for the Earth System Sciences (Springerbriefs in Earth System Sciences) Dragos B. Chirila, Gerrit Lohmann (auth.) Springer Berlin Heidelberg, Imprint Springer. Springer Berlin Heidelberg ; Imprint Springer, 10.1007/97, 2015
This work provides a short "getting started" guide to Fortran 90/95. The main target audience consists of newcomers to the field of numerical computation within Earth system sciences (students, researchers or scientific programmers). Furthermore, readers accustomed to other programming languages may also benefit from this work, by discovering how some programming techniques they are familiar with map to Fortran 95. The main goal is to enable readers to quickly start using Fortran 95 for writing useful programs. It also introduces a gradual discussion of Input/Output facilities relevant for Earth system sciences, from the simplest ones to the more advanced netCDF library (which has become a de facto standard for handling the massive datasets used within Earth system sciences). While related works already treat these disciplines separately (each often providing much more information than needed by the beginning practitioner), the reader finds in this book a shorter guide which links them. Compared to other books, this work provides a much more compact view of the language, while also placing the language-elements in a more applied setting, by providing examples related to numerical computing and more advanced Input/Output facilities for Earth system sciences. Naturally, the coverage of the programming language is relatively shallow, since many details are skipped. However, many of these details can be learned gradually by the practitioner, after getting an overview and some practice with the language through this book.

Psychologie der Menschlichen Welt : Gesammelte Schriften Translated by Anthony Brode and Olga Lane Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint : Springer, Berlin, Heidelberg, 1960

Lineare Algebra [by] W.H. Greub Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint : Springer, Die Grundlehren der mathematischen Wissenschaften in Einzeldarstellungen,, Bd. 97, Grundlehren der mathematischen Wissenschaften in Einzeldarstellungen mit besonderer Berücksichtigung der Anwendungsgebiete ;, Bd. 97., 3d ed., Berlin, New York, West Berlin, 1967
The major change between the second and third edition is the separation of linear and multilinear algebra into two different volumes as well as the incorporation of a great deal of new material. However, the essential character of the book remains the same; in other words, the entire presentation continues to be based on an axiomatic treatment of vector spaces. In this first volume the restriction to finite dimensional vector spaces has been eliminated except for those results which do not hold in the infinite dimensional case. The restriction of the coefficient field to the real and complex numbers has also been removed and except for chapters VII to XI, § 5 of chapter I and § 8, chapter IV we allow any coefficient field of characteristic zero. In fact, many of the theorems are valid for modules over a commutative ring. Finally, a large number of problems of different degree of difficulty has been added. Chapter I deals with the general properties of a vector space. The topology of a real vector space of finite dimension is axiomatically characterized in an additional paragraph

Theoretical geomorphology Adrian E. Scheidegger Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint: Springer, Berlin, Englewood Cliffs, N.J, Germany, 1962
The surface features of the Earth are commonly split into two cate gories, the first of which comprises those features that are due to processes occurring inside the solid Earth (endogenetic features) and the second those that are due to processes occurring outside the solid Earth (exogenetic features). Specifically, the endogenetic features are treated in the science of geodynamics, the exogenetic features in the science of geomorphology. I have treated the theoretical aspects of the endogenetic features in my "Principles of Geodynamics", and it is my aim to supplement my earlier book with a discussion of the theory of the exogenetic features. It is my hope that the two books will together present a reasonably coherent, if necessarily incomplete, account of theoretical geology. Contrary to endogenetic phenomena, exogenetic processes can often be directly observed as they occur: the action of a river, the development of a slope and the evolution of a shore platform are all sufficiently rapid so that they can be seen as they take place. This has the result that in geomorphology one is generally on much less speculative ground regard ing the mechanics of the processes at work than one is in geodynamics

One-Dimensional Finite Elements : An Introduction To The Method Markus Merkel & Andreas Öchsner Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint: Springer Vieweg, Springer Nature, Berlin, Heidelberg, 2023
The basic idea of this introduction to the finite element method is based on the concept of explaining the complex method using only one-dimensional elements. Thus, the mathematical description remains largely simple and straightforward. The emphasis in each chapter is on explaining the method and understanding it itself. The reader learns to understand the assumptions and derivations in various physical problems in structural mechanics and to critically assess the possibilities and limitations of the finite element method. The restriction to one-dimensional elements thus enables the methodical understanding of important topics (e.g. plasticity or composite materials), which a prospective computational engineer encounters in professional practice, but which are rarely treated in this form at universities. Thus, an easy entry - also into more advanced application areas - is ensured by the concept of (a) introduction to the basics (b) exact derivation with restriction to one-dimensional elements (and in many cases also to one-dimensional problems) (c) extensive examples and advanced tasks (with short solution in the appendix). For illustration purposes, each chapter is deepened with extensively calculated and commented examples as well as with further tasks including short solutions

Coal Fired Flue Gas Mercury Emission Controls (Energy and Environment Research in China) Jiang Wu; Yan Cao; Weiguo Pan; Weiping Pan Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint Springer, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, Imprint Springer, Springer Nature, Heidelberg, 2015
Mercury (Hg) is one of the most toxic heavy metals, harmful to both the environment and human health. Hg is released into the atmosphere from natural and anthropogenic sources, and its emission control has caused much concern. This book introduces readers to Hg pollution from natural and anthropogenic sources and systematically describes coal-fired flue gas mercury emission control in industry, especially from coal-fired power stations. Mercury emission control theory and experimental research are demonstrated, including how elemental mercury is oxidized into oxidized mercury and the effect of flue gas contents on the mercury speciation transformation process. Mercury emission control methods, such as existing APCDs (air pollution control devices) at power stations, sorbent injection, additives in coal combustion and photo-catalytic methods are introduced in detail. Lab-scale, pilot-scale and full-scale experimental studies of sorbent injection conducted by the authors are presented systematically, helping researchers and engineers to understand how this approach reduces the mercury emissions in flue gas and to apply the methods in mercury emission control at coal-fired power stations. Readers will arrive at a comprehensive understanding of various mercury emission control methods that are suitable for industrial applications. The book is intended for scientists, researchers, engineers and graduate students in the fields of energy science and technology, environmental science and technology, and chemical engineering

Serialization and Persistent Objects : Turning Data Structures Into Efficient Databases Jiri Soukup; Petr Macháček Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint Springer, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, Imprint Springer, Springer Nature, Berlin, 2014
Recently, the pressure for fast processing and efficient storage of large data with complex relations increased beyond the capability of traditional databases. Typical examples include iPhone applications, computer aided design – both electrical and mechanical, biochemistry applications, and incremental compilers. Serialization, which is sometimes used in such situations is notoriously tedious and error prone. In this book, Jiri Soukup and Petr Macháček show in detail how to write programs which store their internal data automatically and transparently to disk. Together with special data structure libraries which treat relations among objects as first-class entities, and with a UML class-diagram generator, the core application code is much simplified. The benchmark chapter shows a typical example where persistent data is faster by the order of magnitude than with a traditional database, in both traversing and accessing the data. The authors explore and exploit advanced features of object-oriented languages in a depth hardly seen in print before. Yet, you as a reader need only a basic knowledge of C++, Java, C#, or Objective C. These languages are quite similar with respect to persistency, and the authors explain their differences where necessary. The book targets professional programmers working on any industry applications, it teaches you how to design your own persistent data or how to use the existing packages efficiently. Researchers in areas like language design, compiler construction, performance evaluation, and no-SQL applications will find a wealth of novel ideas and valuable implementation tips. Under http://www.codefarms.com/book, you will find a blog and other information, including a downloadable zip file with the sources of all the listings that are longer than just a few lines – ready to compile and run.

Theory of transformation groups I : General properties of continuous transformation groups ; a contemporary approach and translation Sophus Lie, Joël Merker, Joël Merker, Friedrich Engel, Friedrich Engel Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint Springer, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, Imprint Springer, Springer Nature, Heidelberg [Germany], 2015
This modern translation of Sophus Lie's and Friedrich Engel's “Theorie der Transformationsgruppen I” will allow readers to discover the striking conceptual clarity and remarkably systematic organizational thought of the original German text. Volume I presents a comprehensive introduction to the theory and is mainly directed towards the generalization of ideas drawn from the study of examples. The major part of the present volume offers an extremely clear translation of the lucid original. The first four chapters provide not only a translation, but also a contemporary approach, which will help present day readers to familiarize themselves with the concepts at the heart of the subject. The editor's main objective was to encourage a renewed interest in the detailed classification of Lie algebras in dimensions 1, 2 and 3, and to offer access to Sophus Lie's monumental Galois theory of continuous transformation groups, established at the end of the 19th Century. Lie groups are widespread in mathematics, playing a role in representation theory, algebraic geometry, Galois theory, the theory of partial differential equations and also in physics, for example in general relativity. This volume is of interest to researchers in Lie theory and exterior differential systems and also to historians of mathematics. The prerequisites are a basic knowledge of differential calculus, ordinary differential equations and differential geometry. Erscheinungsdatum: 27.03.2015

Paradigm Shift of Education Governance in China : Two Compulsory Education Legislation Episodes: 1986 Vs 2006 Yan Wang Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint : Springer, Springer Nature, Berlin, Heidelberg, 2019
"The book addresses the paradigm shift in education governance in China through a study of two legislation episodes in China: the 1986 Compulsory Education Law and the 2006 Compulsory Education Law Amendment. The research began with two broad questions: how was the Compulsory Education Law made and amended? Why was it made and amended? Using ethnographic interviews and documentary analysis as the main research methods, more specific questions on both legislative processes were delved into as the research evolved: What were the driving forces behind the 1986 and 2006 legislation? What values of compulsory education were assumed in their central decisions? What was the institutional rationale underpinning them? Data was collected through ethnographic interviews with key informants involved in the policymaking process. The research findings were analyzed and presented on the basis of narration analysis. The policymaking process of the legislation was then analyzed from three paradigms: agenda-setting, decision-making and organizational behavior. Finally, by examining the results of the previous stages of analysis, and further comparing the two cases, the research arrived at a theoretical framework for education governance that embraces three essential elements: political ideology, perceived value of education, and institutional rationale. A thorough analysis of the two legislative processes identified that the political ideology - which shifted from efficiency-oriented economic well-being to equity-oriented social cohesion - steered the agenda-setting of the compulsory education legislation. The perceived value of education reflects the role that education plays in development, changing from economic value to social value. The institutional rationale essentially determines strategies by which compulsory education materializes, with a variance from governing by goal and mobilization to governing by accountability and regulation. In conclusion, education governance in China witnessed a paradigm shift from "economic instrumentalism" to "social rationalism" between mid-1980s and 2006." -- prové de l'editor

Real and Abstract Analysis : a modern treatment of the theory of functions of a real variable by Edwin Hewitt and Karl Stromberg Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint : Springer, Berlin, New York, West Berlin, 1965
This book is first of all designed as a text for the course usually called "theory of functions of a real variable". This course is at present cusƯ tomarily offered as a first or second year graduate course in United States universities, although there are signs that this sort of analysis will soon penetrate upper division undergraduate curricula. We have included every topic that we think essential for the training of analysts, and we have also gone down a number of interesting bypaths. We hope too that the book will be useful as a reference for mature mathematicians and other scientific workers. Hence we have presented very general and complete versions of a number of important theorems and constructions. Since these sophisticated versions may be difficult for the beginner, we have given elementary avatars of all important theorems, with approƯ priate suggestions for skipping. We have given complete definitions, exƯ planations, and proofs throughout, so that the book should be usable for individual study as well as for a course text. Prerequisites for reading the book are the following. The reader is assumed to know elementary analysis as the subject is set forth, for example, in TOM M. ApOSTOL'S Mathematical Analysis [Addison-Wesley Publ. Co., Reading, Mass., 1957], or WALTER RUDIN'S Principles of MatheƯ nd matical Analysis [2 Ed., McGraw-Hill Book Co., New York, 1964]

Health is used as a broad term, and is defined as a state of physical and mental wellƯ being by which an individual is capable of processing inner and outer reality in a productive and satisfying manner. The potential stresses and strains inherent in the lifestyles of children, adolescents, and adults in contemporary industrial societies are the prime concern of this book. I try to offer a comprehensive view which takes modern socialization theory as its starting point. Chapter 1 introduces the subject and discusses the psychological and social "costs" that accompany life within modern industrial sociƯ ety. Chapter 2 reviews research on types and distribution of social, psychological, and somatic disorders. Chapter 3 explores the risk facƯ tors and constellations of stressful life events, role conflicts, and tranƯ sitions and focuses on the changes in types of demand or strains throughout the life span. Chapter 4 contains an analysis of the perƯ sonal and social "resources" that can be mobilized if stress occurs"--Font no determinada

Electromagnetic Wave Theory for Boundary-Value Problems : An Advanced Course on Analytical Methods Professor Hyo J. Eom (auth.) Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint : Springer, 10.1007/97, 2004
Electromagnetic wave theory is based on Maxwell's equations, and electromagnetic boundary-value problems must be solved to understand electromagnetic scattering, propagation, and radiation. Electromagnetic theory finds practical applications in wireless telecommunications and microwave engineering. This book is written as a text for a two-semester graduate course on electromagnetic wave theory. As such, Electromagnetic Wave Theory for Boundary-Value Problems is intended to help students enhance analytic skills by solving pertinent boundary-value problems. In particular, the techniques of Fourier transform, mode matching, and residue calculus are utilized to solve some canonical scattering and radiation problems.

Experimentation in Software Engineering Claes Wohlin & Per Runeson & Martin Höst & Magnus C. Ohlsson & Björn Regnell & Anders Wesslén Springer; Second Edition 2024, 2nd ed. 2024, Berlin, Heidelberg
This textbook, which has become the leading source for empirical software engineering research through its earlier editions, provides an in-depth introduction to experimentation in software engineering. The focus is on the steps to go through when conducting experiments. It also introduces a structure for selecting a research design and an introduction to systematic literature reviews, surveys, and case study research. Experiments are valuable tools for all software engineers who evaluate and choose between different solutions, methods, techniques, languages, and tools. The book has three main parts. Part I introduces empirical research through a structure for selecting a research design and explains several essential areas related to empirical research. Moreover, it provides introductions to systematic literature reviews, experiments, surveys, and case studies. Part II devotes one chapter to each of the five experiment steps: scoping, planning, execution, analysis, and result presentation. Part III completes the presentation with two examples. Assignments and statistical material are provided in appendices. The book provides indispensable information regarding empirical studies, particularly for experiments, but also for systematic literature studies, surveys, and case studies. This new edition comprises substantial new material. This includes a chapter on selecting a research design, which helps put experimentation into a broader context of other research approaches. Furthermore, a new chapter on survey research has been added. Novel contributions concerning A/B testing, replications, open science, validity threats, paired comparison design and tools for statistical analysis have been added. Moreover, systematic literature studies, experiments, and case study research descriptions have been consolidated. The book has also been updated based on the evolution of software engineering since the previous edition's publication. The book is intended for students, teachers, researchers, and practitioners who would like to compare different options, for example, feature designs, or different development methods, techniques, languages, or tools. Teachers can use the book for undergraduate or graduate students; the book can be used as a course book on experimentation and empirical studies in general. Researchers will also benefit from the book by learning more about how to conduct empirical studies. Likewise, practitioners may use it as a “cookbook” when evaluating different solutions, alternatively for evaluating new methods or techniques before implementing them in their organisation.

Atoms, Chemical Bonds and Bond Dissociation Energies Sándor Fliszár Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint: Springer, Lecture notes in chemistry, Berlin, Heidelberg, 1994
Chemical bonds, their intrinsic energies in ground-state molecules and the energies required for their actual cleavage are the subject of this book. The theory, modelled after a description of valence electrons in isolated atoms, explains how intrinsic bond energies depend on the amount of electronic charge carried by the bond-forming atoms. It also explains how bond dissociation depends on these charges. While this theory vividly explains thermochemical stability, future research could benefit from a better understanding of bond dissociation: if we learn how the environment of a molecule affects its charges, we also learn how it modifies bond dissociation in that molecule. This essay is aimed at theoretical and physical-organic chemists who are looking for new perspectives to old problems.

The Unitary Group for the Evaluation of Electronic Energy Matrix Elements : Unitary Group Workshop 1979 Jürgen Hinze Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint: Springer, Lecture notes in chemistry, 1st ed. 1981, Berlin, Heidelberg, 1981
During the last thirty years, with the development of high speed electronic computers, methods have evolved, which permit an accurate and quantitative, ab initio determina tion of the electronic wavefunctions of atoms and molecules. Thus a detailed elucida tion of the electronic energy and structure of molecules has become possible using quantum mechanics directly. Ho\~ever, it is necessary, if such calculations are to yield accurate and reliable results, to include electron correlation explicitely, which requires in general. configuration mixing procedures with an extremely large 5 number of configurations, of the order of 10 configurations. With eigenvalue problems of this size, the limits of even the largest and fastest computers are reached rapidly, and their solution has become possible only, because direct methods have been deve~ loped which permit the determination of eigenvalues and eigenvectors for such large matrices iteratively without constructing the energy matrix explicitely. These direct methods had been limited to the description of closed shell systems, i. e. systems with a single dominant closed shell reference determinant. This limitation arose, because with an open shell reference or with several reference determinants, no procedures were known, which allowed a rapid calculation of the energy matrix elements between configurations with general and widely different spin couplings, which would be necessary. Recently such methods have been developed, based on early work of Gelfand, Biedenharn and Moshinski using a unitary group representation of different spin coupled states; Paldus achieved an extremely compact description.

Structural Vibration: A Uniform Accurate Solution for Laminated Beams, Plates and Shells with General Boundary Conditions (Springer Series in Solid and Structural Mechanics) Guoyong Jin, Tiangui Ye, Zhu Su (auth.) Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg, 1st ed. 2015, Berlin, Heidelberg, Berlin, Heidelberg, 2015
This book develops a uniform accurate method which is capable of dealing with vibrations of laminated beams, plates and shells with arbitrary boundary conditions including classical boundaries, elastic supports and their combinations. It also provides numerous solutions for various configurations including various boundary conditions, laminated schemes, geometry and material parameters, which fill certain gaps in this area of reach and may serve as benchmark solutions for the readers. For each case, corresponding fundamental equations in the framework of classical and shear deformation theory are developed. Following the fundamental equations, numerous free vibration results are presented for various configurations including different boundary conditions, laminated sequences and geometry and material properties. The proposed method and corresponding formulations can be readily extended to static analysis.

Photophysics of Ionic Biochromophores (Physical Chemistry in Action) Steen Brøndsted Nielsen, Jean Ann Wyer (auth.), Steen Brøndsted Nielsen, Jean Ann Wyer (eds.) Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg, Physical Chemistry in Action, Physical Chemistry in Action, 1, 2013
This book provides a concise overview of the photophysics and spectroscopy of bio chromophore ions. The book "Photophysics of Ionic Biochromophores" summarizes important recent advances in the spectroscopy of isolated biomolecular ions in vacuo, which has within the last decade become a highly active research field. Advanced instrumental apparatus and the steady increase in more and more powerful computers have made this development possible, both for experimentalists and theoreticians. Applied techniques described here include absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy, which are excellent indicators of environmental effects and can thus shed light on the intrinsic electronic structures of ions without perturbations from e.g. water molecules, counter ions, nearby charges, and polar amino acid residues. When compared with spectra of the chromophores in their natural environment, such spectra allow to identify possible perturbations. At the same time gas-phase spectra provide important benchmarks for quantum chemistry calculations of electronically excited states. This volume focuses on biological systems from protein biochromophores, e.g. the protonated Schiff-base retinal responsible for vision, and individual aromatic amino acids to peptides and whole proteins, studied using visible, ultraviolet and vacuum ultraviolet light. Work on DNA nucleotides and strands that are amenable to mass spectrometric studies because of the negatively charged sugarphosphate backbone are also presented. DNA strands represent an example of the interplay between multiple chromophores, which is even harder to model correctly than just single chromophores due to spatially extended excited states and weak coupling terms. The experimental techniques used to measure spectra and commonly used theoretical methods are described with a discussion on limitations and advantages. The volume includes an updated status of the field and interesting future directions such as cold ion spectroscopy.

Einführung in die Produktionswirtschaft (Heidelberger Taschenbücher) Christoph A Schneeweiss Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint : Springer, Heidelberger Taschenbücher, Berlin Heidelberg New York London Paris Tokyo, 1987

Patch Testing || Professor Dr. S. Fregert, Professor Dr. H.-J. Bandmann (auth.) Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint: Springer, 10.1007/97, 1975
The patch test (epicutaneous test) and photo patch test are used to clarify the etiology and diagnosis of allergic as well as light-potentiated contact der matitis. The patch test must be correlated with historic data and physical ex amination. Contact dermatitis constitutes a significant proportion (5%-15%) of the dis eases at dermatologic clinics. If the results are to be reliable, patch tests should be performed properly and the technique should not be varied in an arbitrary manner. The examiner should adhere strictly to the standard procedure so as to understand its possibilities and its limitations. Interpretation of the actual patch test reactions places high demands on the experience and skill of the examiner and on his knowledge of chemistry and pharmacology. This monograph is concerned only with the patch test method used to demonstrate the existence of contact allergy and light-potentiated contact allergy. It does not describe the "prophetic patch test" ("predictive patch test"), which is used to demonstrate the sensitizing capacity of a substance. The terminology in the text is that recommended by the International Con tact Dermatitis Research Group. (In this book dermatitis = eczema.) 1.2 Historic Development Joseph Jadassohn devised the epicutaneous test. [Zoophysiology] The Neural Basis of Echolocation in Bats Volume 25 || Professor Dr. George D. Pollak, Professor Dr. John H. Casseday (auth.) Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint: Springer, 10.1007/97, 1989
The brain of an echo locating bat is devoted, in large part, to analyzing sound and conducting behavior in a world of sounds and echoes. This monograph is about analysis of sound in the brainstem of echolocating bats and concerns the relationship between brain structure and brain function. Echolocating bats are unique subjects for the study of such relationships. Like man, echolocating bats emit sounds just for the purpose of listening to them. Simply by observing the bat's echolocation sounds, we know what the bat listens to in nature. We therefore have a good idea what the bat's auditory brain is designed to do. But this alone does not make the bat unique. The brain of the bat is, by mammalian standards, rather primitive. The unique aspect is the combination of primitive characteristics and complex auditory processing. Within this small brain the auditory structures are hypertrophied and have an elegance of organization not seen in other mammals. It is as if the auditory pathways had evolved while the rest of the brain remained evolutionary quiescent.

Uncertainty Theory (Springer Uncertainty Research) Baoding Liu Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint Springer, Springer Berlin Heidelberg, Imprint Springer, Springer uncertainty research, 4th ed. 2015, Berlin, Heidelberg, Berlin, Heidelberg, 2015
When no samples are available to estimate a probability distribution, we have to invite some domain experts to evaluate the belief degree that each event will happen. Perhaps some people think that the belief degree should be modeled by subjective probability or fuzzy set theory. However, it is usually inappropriate because both of them may lead to counterintuitive results in this case. In order to rationally deal with belief degrees, uncertainty theory was founded in 2007 and subsequently studied by many researchers. Nowadays, uncertainty theory has become a branch of axiomatic mathematics for modeling belief degrees. This is an introductory textbook on uncertainty theory, uncertain programming, uncertain statistics, uncertain risk analysis, uncertain reliability analysis, uncertain set, uncertain logic, uncertain inference, uncertain process, uncertain calculus, and uncertain differential equation. This textbook also shows applications of uncertainty theory to scheduling, logistics, networks, data mining, control, and finance.

Special Techniques in Internal Fixation || Dr. med. Ch. F. Brunner, Professor Dr. med. B. G. Weber (auth.) Springer Berlin Heidelberg : Imprint: Springer, 10.1007/97, 1982
and refinement that exists within the necessarily strict rules of the internal fixation method. In this way we seek to contribute to as weIl as to stimulate the search for rational solutions to surgical problems. It is assumed throughout that the reader is fa miliar with the technical fundamentals of internal fixation, and so these details are omitted. Instead, special indications and technical refinements are presented on the basis of case examples. Because an endless variety of situations can arise in orthopedic surgery (a circumstance that is attracting more and more surgeons to the field), we have taken ca re that our examples can readily be applied to novel situations. We now credit, in alphabetic order, those who contributed most to the techniques presented: R. BLATTER, A. BOITZY, C. BRUNNER, O. CECH, A. DEBRUNNER, F. MAGERL, G. SEGMÜLLER, G. STÜHMER, and B.G. WEBER. We thus express thanks to those colleagues in our clinic who agreed to having their ideas published. But we are also grateful to our illustrators, H. and K. SCHUMACHER, our photographer, M. SCHAFFNER, and our chief secretary, U. OETLIKER, who contributed so much to the preparation of the manuscript. Finally, we thank Springer-Verlag for their patience with us and especiaUy for their efficient work in bringing the book to press. St. GaU, Fall 1981 CH.F. BRUNNER B.G.
