Fort Hood in World War II (Images of America: Texas) David Ford Arcadia Publishing Inc., INscribe Digital, [N.p.], 2015

On January 14, 1942, Col. Andrew D. Bruce announced that the location of the new Tank Destroyer Tactical Training and Firing Center was to be near Killeen, Texas. This announcement put into motion a whirlwind of activity and construction that resulted in the creation of one of the largest military bases in the world. On September 18, 1942, Camp Hood was officially opened. Eight short months after the opening of Camp Hood, the base nearly doubled in size. Building from scratch, the spirit of a black panther, as depicted on the tank destroyers shoulder patch, was channeled into anti-tank combat teams. These teams were trained to fight the formidable might of Germany's panzer divisions.

lgli/David Hood - What Kills Good Men (2015, Nimbus).epub
What kills good men : a novel Hood, David Nimbus Publishing, Limited, Nimbus Publishing, [N.p.], 2015
On an October night in 1899 the body of a well-regarded city councilman is found floating under a Halifax wharf. Detective Inspector Culligan Baxter embarks on an investigation that leads from the waterfront, through the city's streets, and out into the surrounding countryside. Aided by the young but surprisingly astute Kenny Squire and an odd assortment of barkeeps, petty thieves, and prostitutes, Baxter's sleuthing takes him into the station's back files and along a path of connections and corruption, linking some of the city's most prominent businessmen. From the well-to-do parlours to the seedy taverns to the public spaces that still dominate the city's downtown today, author David Hood has created a vivid portrait of late-Victorian Halifax. With pointed observations on human behaviour and on the changing character of his hometown, Detective Baxter conducts a sardonic inquiry into morality, justice, and the space in between.

The trials and tribulations of Little Red Riding Hood : versions of the tale in sociocultural perspective Zipes, Jack David South Hadley, Mass.: Bergin & Garvey Publishers, South Hadley, Mass, Massachusetts, 1983
When is a wolf a wolf, and when is he a rapist? In the new, expanded edition of his controversial and groundbreaking work, Jack Zipes presents the many faces of Little Red Riding Hood. In tracing the evolution of the story, the author takes on those questions which other authors have shied away from; violation, rape, male fantasies and manipulation. This book collects 35 of the best versions of the story, from the first tellings as a folktale, to its written renderings by such authors as the Brothers Grimm, Walter De La Mare, James Thurber, Alphonse Daudet, Anne Sexton, Olga Broumas and Angela Carter, providing a detailed social history of the literary Red Riding Hood. Zipes uses these tales to explore questions of Western culture, sexism, and politics and in a new epilogue examines the illustrations used in past versions for their "take on the tale". A new preface and an expanded bibliography have also been included for the second edition. As with Jack Zipes' other works, ***The Trials and Tribulations of Little Red Riding Hood*** will cause the reader to question just how harmless our fairy tales are. **Jack Zipes** is Professor of German at the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis. He is the author of *Breaking the Magic Spell, Fairy Tales and the Art of Subversion* and *Don't Bet on the Prince*, all available from Routledge. He is the translator of the complete Grimm fairy tales.

Sweat, Blood, and Tears : What God Uses to Make a Man Xan Hood David C. Cook : Made available through hoopla, David C. Cook, [United States], 2013
By the time he graduated college, Xan Hood appeared to have everything a young, privileged modern male needed for success and adulthood. But like so many others his age, he was afraid to take that next step. So he took a slight detour and headed west, surrounding himself wtih a class of men he had been raised to avoid. Follow Xan as he learns lessons that can only be taught by God's grace, hard work, and the presence of older men. Sweat, Blood, and Tears is a searingly honest coming-of-age story. It is a look at how God raises a man—a story for young men and those who love them.

Modelling Paralanguage Using Systemic Functional Semiotics: Theory and Application (Bloomsbury Studies in Systemic Functional Linguistics) Thu Ngo; Susan Hood; J R Martin; Clare Painter; Bradley A Smith, (Research assistant); Michele Zappavigna Bloomsbury Publishing Plc, Bloomsbury Studies in Systemic Functional Linguistics, 1, 2021
Winner of the ASFLA ( Australian Systemic Functional Linguistics Association) M. A. K. Halliday Prize 2023 This book is the first comprehensive account of 'body language' as 'paralanguage' informed by Systemic Functional Semiotics (SFS). It brings together the collaborative work of internationally renowned academics and emerging scholars to offer a fresh linguistic perspective on gesture, body orientation, body movement, facial expression and voice quality resources that support all spoken language. The authors create a framework for distinguishing non-semiotic behaviour from paralanguage, and provide a comprehensive modelling of paralanguage in each of the three metafunctions of meaning (ideational, interpersonal and textual). Illustrations of the application of this new model for multimodal discourse analysis draw on a range of contexts, from social media vlogs, to animated children's narratives, to face-to-face teaching. Modelling Paralanguage Using Systemic Functional Semiotics offers an innovative way for dealing with culture-specific and context specific paralanguage.

Whose Life is it Anyway? A Lifeline in a Stress-Soaked World: Message to a Busy Christian Neil Hood; David Lund Authentic Lifestyle, is an imprint of Authentic Media, Carlisle, ©2002
Not sure where the time goes as you struggle to combine life at work, home, and church? Frustrated that you don't live the life that you should live but don't know what to do about it? But stop. Whose life is it anyway? We think that our lives are framed by our world - our culture, our circumstances, our expectations, and the expectations others have of us. We are often so blinded by our own busyness that we do not even stop to think about God. But what as Christians is our primary responsibility? Neil Hood challenges us to rethink our frameworks of possibility, to realize that this life is short, and that we are looking towards eternity with a very short lens indeed. He leads us on a challenging journey, which begins in the heart and extends out to the very practical details of our lives. What is our fundamental call to Christian lifestyle and commitment? And how do the priorities of our time, energy and focus reflect that? Whose Life is it Anyway? is a message to you - the busy Christian - and is one that you can't afford to dismiss until you have given it serious.
