Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus: German and English (International Library of Psychology, Philosophy, & Scientific Method) by Ludwig Wittgenstein; with an introduction by Bertrand Russell; [translated from the German by C.K. Ogden] Routledge Kegan#x9C; Paul, Taylor & Francis (Unlimited), Abingdon, Oxon, 2010
The Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus first appeared in 1921 and was the only philosophical work that Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951) published during his lifetime. Written in short, carefully numbered paragraphs of extreme compression and brilliance, it immediately convinced many of its readers and captured the imagination of all.Its chief influence, at first, was on the Logical Positivists of the 1920s and 1930s, but many other philosophers were stimulated by its philosophy of language, finding attractive, even if ultimately unsatisfactory, its view that propositions were pictures of reality. Perhaps most of all, its own author, after his return to philosophy in the late 1920s, was fascinated by its vision of an inexpressible, crystalline world of logical relationships.C.K. Ogden's translation of the Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus has a unique provenance. As revealed in Letters of C.K. Ogden (1973) and in correspondence in The Times Literary Supplement, Wittgenstein, Ramsey and Moore all worked with Ogden on the translation, which had Wittgenstein's complete approval. The very name Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus was of Ogden's devising; and there is very strong feeling among philosophers that, among the differing translations of this work, Ogden's is the definitive text - and Wittgenstein's version of the English equivalent of his Logisch-Philosophische Abhandlung.

Philosophical Investigations/Philosophische Untersuchungen by Ludwig Wittgenstein; translated by G.E.M. Anscombe Blackwell Publishers, 2nd ed., reissued German-English ed., reissued 2nd ed., Oxford, UK, Malden, Mass, England, 1997
This volume presents the original German/English edition of Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations - one of the most influential philosophical works of the twentieth century. The last product of intensive work by Wittgenstein during the period 1929-49, Philosophical Investigations explores the concepts of meaning; of understanding; of propositions; of logic; of states of consciousness; and many other topics. Wittgenstein subjects the approach of his early work, the Tractatus, to penetrating criticism and analysis. It is essential reading for all students of philosophy.

nexusstc/The Blue and Brown Books: Preliminary Studies for the ’Philosophical Investigation’/8817738e96402a6ae23051c250471932.pdf
The Blue and Brown Books: Preliminary Studies for the ’Philosophical Investigation’ Ludwig Wittgenstein; translations by Peter Docherty Wiley-Blackwell (an imprint of John Wiley & Sons Ltd), 1, 1991
These works, as the sub-title makes clear, are unfinished sketches for Philosophical Investigations, possibly the most important and influential philosophical work of modern times. The 'Blue Book' is a set of notes dictated to Witgenstein's Cambridge students in 1933-1934: the 'Brown Book' was a draft for what eventually became the growth of the first part of Philosophical Investigations. This book reveals the germination and growth of the ideas which found their final expression in Witgenstein's later work. It is indispensable therefore to students of Witgenstein's thought and to all those who wish to study at first-hand the mental processes of a thinker who fundamentally changed the course of modern philosophy.

Philosophical Investigations; Translated by G.E.M. Anscombe. 3rd Ed. [reprinted] with Index by Ludwig Wittgenstein; translated by G. E. M. Anscombe Blackwell Publishers, 3rd, 1968
Philosophical Investigations' by Ludwig Wittgenstein is arguably the most important philosophical work of the 20th century, followed close behind by Wittgenstein's earlier work, the `Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus'. While the earlier work was heavily influenced and endorsed by Bertrand Russell, who was always better known than his Austrian colleague in the world at large, the latter work is a complete departure from the logic based philosophy of Russell and the Logical Positivists, for whom the Tractatus was their bible. Although I have never seen this in any philosophical or historical analysis of Wittgenstein's work, the `Philosophical Investigations' were much closer to the `common sense' style of philosophy of G. E. Moore than to the thinking of Russell. All three were Cambridge dons and it is certain that Wittgenstein and Moore knew one another very well. The only thing which may have prevented Moore's ideas from influencing Wittgenstein is that the latter man was a much deeper thinker whose ideas still shape modern philosophy while Moore has become something of a footnote in the history of philosophy, best known for his common sense defense of the real world and his `naturalistic fallacy' invention in his pretentiously titled `Principia Ethica.

Philosophical Investigations; Translated by G.E.M. Anscombe. 3rd Ed. [reprinted] with Index Wittgenstein, Ludwig;Anscombe, Gertrude Elizabeth Margaret Blackwell Publishers, 3rd, 1968;1986
While this edition does not solve all problems, no edition could. It is a beautiful piece of work. This is one of the great philosophical books of all time having changed philosophy and culture as well. The book was intended to put an end to academic philosophy which is one reason that it has divided academicians into two camps - religious followers and those who despise the book. But you have to read it for yourself to be even within the domain of literate. It is a well written collection of sometimes aphoristic remarks, many of which have crept into literature and even scientific thought. Brilliantly original, highly readable and certain to change the way you think.Philosophical Investigations: The German Text, with a Revised English Translation 50th Anniversary Commemorative Edition

Philosophical Investigations; Translated by G.E.M. Anscombe. 3rd Ed. [reprinted] with Index by Ludwig Wittgenstein; translated by G. E. M. Anscombe Blackwell Publishers, 3, 1986
Brilliantly original, highly readable and certain to change the way you think.Philosophical Investigations: The German Text, with a Revised English Translation 50th Anniversary Commemorative Edition

lgli/Ludwig Wittgenstein and Friederich Waismann, Ludwig Wittgenstein and the Vienna Circle.pdf
Ludwig Wittgenstein and the Vienna Circle: Conversations Recorded by Friedrich Waismann Friedrich Waismann, Brian McGuinness (editor) Basil Blackwell, New York, New York State, 1979
This material, taken and translated from the papers of Friedrich Waismann, contains recordings of conversations in which Wittgenstein was invited to share and explain his ideas to members of the Vienna Circle, especially Waismann and Moritz Schlick. The conversations make most of the volume's content. Appendixes A and B are the only sections not explicitly attributed to Wittgenstein, though they were still intended to present his thought. Appendix A is itself based on conversations with Wittgenstein, while Appendix B represents Waismann's efforts to interpret some important principles within the Tractatus, in light of the ongoing conversations at the time. Thus, for the most part, this book provides a reliable and first-hand account of Wittgenstein's thought before his return to Cambridge as a professor. An account which also enjoyed the philosopher’s personal involvement and approval at the time. This volume should not be confused with another compilation called The Voices of Wittgenstein, which is more recent than this book, in respect to both the original German compilations as well as the English translations discussed here. That newer publication contains a different set of texts related to the exact same collaborative project between Wittgenstein and the Vienna Circle to disseminate the former’s ideas. Those texts, however, did not include a specified origin, so their context and purpose has been inferred based on external evidence. Most of the included content can still be seen as authoritative expositions of Wittgenstein’s philosophy, but the first-handedness of the material varies, making Waismann’s co-authorship more significant at times. In fact, many texts included in The Voices of Wittgenstein are understood to have been written later, up until 1939, compared to the material included in Ludwig Wittgenstein and the Vienna Circle, which was written from 1929 to 1932. In that earlier period, Wittgenstein’s interest and involvement in the project was much greater and steadier.
