lgli/books6/Rabbat G. Handbook of Advanced Semi-Conductor Technology and Computer Systems (Springer, 1988)(ISBN 9780442276881)(T)(958s).djvu
Handbook Of Advanced Semiconductor Technology And Computer Systems (van Nostrand Reinhold Electrical/computer Science And Engineering Series) edited by Guy Rabbat Springer, Van Nostrand Reinhold electrical/computer science and engineering series, New York, New York State, 1988
Chapter I describes deposition as a basic microelectronics technique. Plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) is a technique widely accepted in microelectronics for the deposition of amorphous dielectric films such as silicon nitride and silicon oxide. The main advantage of PECVD stems from the intro duction of plasma energy to the CVD environment, which makes it possible to promote chemical reactions at relatively low temperatures. A natural extension of this is to use this plasma energy to lower the temperature required to obtain a crystalline deposit. This chapter discusses the PECVD technique and its ap plication to the deposition of dielectric, semiconductor, and conductor films of interest to microelectronics. Chapter 2 acquaints the reader with the technology and capabilities of plasma processing. Batch etching reactors and etching processes are approaching ma turity after more than ten years of development. Requirements of anisotropic and selective etching have been met using a variety of reactor configurations and etching gases. The present emphasis is the integration of plasma etching processes into the overall fabrication sequence. Chapter 3 reviews recent advances in high pressure oxidation technology and its applications to integrated circuits. The high pressure oxidation system, oxi dation mechanisms, oxidation-induced stacking faults, impurity segregation, and oxide quality are described. Applications to bipolar and MOS devices are also presented."

Synchronous programming of reactive systems Nicholas Halbwachs Kluwer Academic Publishers; Springer, The Springer International Series in Engineering and Computer Science, Softcover reprint of hardcover 1st ed. 1993, 1993
This book will attempt to give a first synthesis of recent works con cerning reactive system design. The term "reactive system" has been introduced in order to at'oid the ambiguities often associated with by the term "real-time system," which, although best known and more sugges tive, has been given so many different meanings that it is almost in evitably misunderstood. Industrial process control systems, transporta tion control and supervision systems, signal-processing systems, are ex amples of the systems we have in mind. Although these systems are more and more computerized, it is sur prising to notice that the problem of time in computer science has been studied only recently by "pure" computer scientists. Until the early 1980s, time problems were regarded as the concern of performance evalu ation, or of some (unjustly scorned) "industrial computer engineering," or, at best, of operating systems. A second surprising fact, in contrast, is the growth of research con cerning timed systems during the last decade. The handling of time has suddenly become a fundamental goal for most models of concurrency. In particular, Robin Alilner 's pioneering works about synchronous process algebras gave rise to a school of thought adopting the following abstract point of view: As soon as one admits that a system can instantaneously react to events, i. e. The Passion of Fatima - Critiquing Kitab Sulaym ibn Qays Abdullah al-Rabbat Independently Published, PT, 2021
Kitb al-Saqfa of Sulaym ibn Qays al-Hill, which is purportedly the oldest surviving Shite (and Islamic) adth collection, is a Twelver Shite text that is drenched in controversy today. Its controversy, for the most part, stems from its embodiment of an alternative Rfiite rendition of the historical events following the Prophets death, most notably, the purported assault on his daughter, Fima. The controversy surrounding Kitb Sulaym ibn Qays and its origins is not confined to the realms of Sunn-Shite polemical disputes. Rather, the book was initially criticized by some medieval Twelver authorities, who casted doubts on its integrity and/or authenticity. Despite the past criticism it had received, the book today is championed in many Twelver Shite institutions and circles as an authoritative document that can be verifiably traced to the first century of Islam, hence granting it great significance and importance in many circles. This book provides an exposition of this Twelver Shite document with a detailed analysis of its transmission and historicity in an attempt to discern its origins. Though Kitb Sulaym is not the be-all and end-all of Shite historiography surrounding the purported tragedy of Fima, it is, more or less, an important pillar of the narrative, and discerning the books origins will prove to be a milestone in untangling this historical narrative.

Mamluk History through Architecture: Monuments, Culture and Politics in Medieval Egypt and Syria (Library of Middle East History) Rabbat, Nasser O. I. B. Tauris & Company, Limited, 2019
"The most enduring testament to the Mamluk Sultanate is its architecture. Not only do Mamluk buildings embody one of the most outstanding medieval architectural traditions, Mamluk architecture is actually a key to the social history of the period. Analysing Mamluk constructions as a form of communication and documentation as well as a cultural index, "Mamluk History Through Architecture" shows how the buildings mirror the complex - and historically unique - military, political, social and financial structures of Mamluk society. With this original and authoritative study, Nasser Rabbat offers an innovative approach to the history of the Mamluks - through readings of the spectacular architecture of the period. Drawing on examples from throughout both Egypt and Syria, from the Citadel and Al-Azhar Mosque of Cairo to the Mausoleum of al-Zahir Baybars in Damascus, Rabbat demonstrates how Mamluk architecture served to reinforce visually the spirit of the counter-Crusade, when the Muslim world rebounded from the setbacks of the First Crusade. Both holistically and in case studies, Rabbat demonstrates how history is inscribed into and reflected by a culture's artefacts. This is a groundbreaking work in the study of architecture and social history in the Middle East and beyond."--Bloomsbury Publishing.

Real-Time UNIX® Systems: Design and Application Guide (The Springer International Series in Engineering and Computer Science (121)) Borko Furht, Dan Grostick, David Gluch, Guy Rabbat, John Parker, Meg McRoberts, Borivoje Furht Springer US, Springer Nature, New York, NY, 2012
A growing concern of mine has been the unrealistic expectations for new computer-related technologies introduced into all kinds of organizations. Unrealistic expectations lead to disappointment, and a schizophrenic approach to the introduction of new technologies. The UNIX and real-time UNIX operating system technologies are major examples of emerging technologies with great potential benefits but unrealistic expectations. Users want to use UNIX as a common operating system throughout large segments of their organizations. A common operating system would decrease software costs by helping to provide portability and interoperability between computer systems in today's multivendor environments. Users would be able to more easily purchase new equipment and technologies and cost-effectively reuse their applications. And they could more easily connect heterogeneous equipment in different departments without having to constantly write and rewrite interfaces. On the other hand, many users in various organizations do not understand the ramifications of general-purpose versus real-time UNIX. Users tend to think of "real-time" as a way to handle exotic heart-monitoring or robotics systems. Then these users use UNIX for transaction processing and office applications and complain about its performance, robustness, and reliability. Unfortunately, the users don't realize that real-time capabilities added to UNIX can provide better performance, robustness and reliability for these non-real-time applications. Many other vendors and users do realize this, however. There are indications even now that general-purpose UNIX will go away as a separate entity. It will be replaced by a real-time UNIX. General-purpose UNIX will exist only as a subset of real-time UNIX. Erscheinungsdatum: 31.12.1990

Making Cairo Medieval (Transnational Perspectives on Space and Place) Nezar AlSayyad (editor), Irene A. Bierman (editor), Nasser Rabbat (editor) Lexington Books/Fortress Academic, Transnational perspectives on space and place, Lanham [Md, 2005
During the nineteenth century, Cairo witnessed once of its most dramatic periods of transformation. Well on its way to becoming a modern and cosmopolitan city, by the end of the century, a 'medieval' Cairo had somehow come into being. While many Europeans in the nineteenth century viewed Cairo as a fundamentally dual city--physically and psychically split between East/West and modern/medieval--the contributors to the provocative collection demonstrate that, in fact, this process of inscription was the result of restoration practices, museology, and tourism initiated by colonial occupiers. The first edited volume to address nineteenth-century Cairo both in terms of its history and the perception of its achievements, this book will be an essential text for courses in architectural and art history dealing with the Islamic world.

Writing Egypt : Al-Maqrizi and his Historical Project Nasser Rabbat Edinburgh University Press, Edinburgh University Press, Edinburgh, 2022
## Recounts the life of Egypt’s greatest historian, analyses his work and assesses its impact then and now * Offers the most complete, probing and layered biography of al-Maqrizi * Interprets al-Maqrizi’s historical output as a long-term scholarly project revolving around his famous __Khitat__ to capture the entire history of Egypt * Analyses al-Maqrizi’s approach and methodologies in light of his beliefs, ethics, feelings, education, social standing, world views, politics and personal circumstances * Distills from al-Maqrizi’s massive textual output insights into his theorising, conception of history and the influence of his teacher Ibn Khaldun * Restores him to the pinnacle of Mamluk historiographical tradition as an unusually outspoken critic who was animated by his moral rectitude Although al-Maqrizi is recognised as the most influential historian of pre-modern Egypt, he has never received the probing historical treatment warranted by his standing and scholarly output. This book fills that gap. Arranged in three sections, it tells al-Maqrizi’s life story in the first, weaves it with historiographical, textual and methodological analysis of his oeuvre in the second, and reconstructs the afterlife of the author and his work down to the present in the third part. al-Maqrizi is presented both as a man of his age who forged a distinct and unique scholarly persona and a historian with a structured and principled project aiming to reconstruct the history of Islamic Egypt in all its facets. His, however, was a critical stance with moral overtones, conceived from within the epistemological framework of a medieval Muslim thinker, which ensured not only his reputation in his own historiographical tradition, but also his reclamation in the modern Egyptian consciousness as one of the most original voices of Egypt.

Real-Time UNIX Systems: Design and Application Guide (The Springer International Series in Engineering and Computer Science, 121) Borko Furht, Dan Grostick, David Gluch, Guy Rabbat, John Parker, Meg McRoberts (auth.) Springer US, The Kluwer International Series in Engineering and Computer Science, The Kluwer International Series in Engineering and Computer Science 121, 1, 1991
Erscheinungsdatum: 28.09.2012
