Complexity theory is a central field of the theoretical foundations of computer science. It is concerned with the general study of the intrinsic complexity of computational tasks; that is, it addresses the question of what can be achieved within limited time (and/or with other limited natural computational resources). This book offers a conceptual perspective on complexity theory. It is intended to serve as an introduction for advanced undergraduate and graduate students, either as a textbook or for self-study. The book will also be useful to experts, since it provides expositions of the various sub-areas of complexity theory such as hardness amplification, pseudorandomness and probabilistic proof systems. In each case, the author starts by posing the intuitive questions that are addressed by the sub-area and then discusses the choices made in the actual formulation of these questions, the approaches that lead to the answers, and the ideas that are embedded in these answers.

Treasure Island (Everyman's Library Children's Classics)
Robert Louis Stevenson; Mervyn Peake
London: Everyman's Library Children's Classics, Everyman's Library Children's Classics Series, New ed, London, c1992
Traditionally considered a coming-of-age story, Treasure Island is an adventure tale known for its atmosphere, characters and action, and also as a wry commentary on the ambiguity of morality — as seen in Long John Silver — unusual for children's literature then and now. It is one of the most frequently dramatized of all novels. The influence of Treasure Island on popular perceptions of pirates is enormous, including treasure maps marked with an "X", schooners, the Black Spot, tropical islands, and one-legged seamen carrying parrots on their shoulders

Orgoglio e pregiudizio (Italian Edition)
Jane Austen
Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Editore srl, 2010

---------- *The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha* known simply as *Don Quixote* is a Spanish novel by Miguel de Cervantes, originally published in two parts, in 1605 and 1615 and considered a founding work of Western literature. 汤姆·索亚历险记: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
(美)马克. 吐温著 ; 贾文浩, 贾文渊译; 马克. 吐温; 贾文浩; 贾文渊
北京燕山出版社, 2011-09-02
Mark Twain created the memorable characters Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn drawing from the experiences of boys he grew up with in Missouri. Set by the Mississippi River in the 1840's, it follows these boys as they get into predicament after predicament. Tom's classic whitewashing of the fence has become part of American legend, and the book paints a nostalgic picture of life in the middle of the nineteenth century. Tom runs away from home to an island in the river, chases Injun Joe and his treasure, and even gets trapped in a cave for days with Becky Thatcher. The book is one of Twain's most beloved stories.

Wuthering Heights
Bronte, Emily, 1818-1848
Alfred A. Knopf/Everyman's Library, Editions vary, New York, 1991, 1847
One of the most powerful and original novels of English literature, Wuthering Heights is more than just a story of lbve. It is a story of grand passion, of devotion, and of retribution. It is the story of two families of the Yorkshire moors and the adopted foundling, named Heathcliff, who one day lands among them. Heathcliff, a darkly handsome boy of fiery temperament, is raised among the windblown moors of Wuthering Heights by a family farmers, the Earnshaws. Heathcliff quickly becomes a favorite of Mr. Earnshaw, inciting the jealousy of his son, Hindley Earnshaw. The younger Earnshaw's cruelty will in turn spark a lifelong vow of vengeance from the intense, feral Heathcliff. At Wuthering Heights, Heathcliff also meets the beautiful, spirit- ed Catherine Earnshaw. From mischievous childhood playmates, the two grow to recognize that they are soul mates, but theirs is not an easy love. Their twinned tempestuous natures prove t(X) explosive for a conventional happy ending. Their fractious bond forms the seed of this remarkable work of imagination. Some 150 years after Wuthering Heights was first published, its power and rough beauty still fascinate readers. Its exploration of both the radiant and darker flames of human passion still rings true. Emily Bronté (1818-1848) was born in Yorkshire, England, the fifth child of an Irish clergyman and a mother who died of cancer when Emily was three. After two daughters died at boarding school, their father brought Emily and Charlotte home. The three Bronté sisters turned to novel writing, but Emily's Wuthering Heights initially failed to gain an audience. She died at the age of thirty without seeing the success of her book. --back cover

Egmont Childrens Books, Classic library, 1991

King's Musketeers 1: The Three Musketeers
Alexandre Dumas; David Coward
Macmillan, 1843
The Three Musketeers (1844) is one of the most famous historical novels ever written. It is also one of the world's greatest historical adventure stories, and its heroes have become symbols for the spirit of youth, daring, and comradeship. The action takes place in the 1620s at the court of Louis XIII, where the musketeers, Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, with their companion, the headstrong d'Artagnan, are engaged in a battle against Richelieu, the King's minister, and the beautiful, unscrupulous spy, Milady. Behind the flashing blades and bravura, in this first adventure of the Musketeers, Dumas explores the eternal conflict between good and evil. This new edition is the most fully annotated to date in English, providing explanatory notes which set the work in its historical, literary, and cultural context. Treasure Island
Robert Louis Stevenson
J M Dent & Sons Ltd, Children's illustrated classics, London, New York, 1948
Traditionally considered a coming-of-age story, Treasure Island is an adventure tale known for its atmosphere, characters and action, and also as a wry commentary on the ambiguity of morality — as seen in Long John Silver — unusual for children's literature then and now. It is one of the most frequently dramatized of all novels. The influence of Treasure Island on popular perceptions of pirates is enormous, including treasure maps marked with an "X", schooners, the Black Spot, tropical islands, and one-legged seamen carrying parrots on their shoulders

Pride and Prejudice (The World's Classics)
Jane Austen; edited by James Kinsley; with a new introduction by Isobel Armstrong; notes by Frank W. Bradbrook
Oxford [England] ; New York: Oxford University Press, The World's Classics, Reissue (13), Oxford, England, England, 1990
"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife." Of all Jane Austen's books, Pride and Prejudice has earned a special place in the hearts of the reading public as her best-loved and most intimately known novel. From its famous opening sentence the story of the Bennet family and of the novel's two protagonists, Elizabeth and Darcy, told with a wit that its author feared might prove 'rather too light and bright, and sparkling', delights its most familiar readers as thoroughly as it does those who encounter it for the first time. Jane Austen's artistry is apparent, too, in the delineation of the minor characters: the ill-matched Mr and Mrs Bennet, Charles Bingley and his sisters, and above all the fatuous Mr Collins, whose proposal to Elizabeth Bennet is one of the finest comic passages in English literature. And while she entertains us, Jane Austen teaches us the wisdom of balance, the folly of 'pride' and 'prejudice'. --back cover
