Decoding Chomsky : Science and Revolutionary Politics
Chris Knight, Chris Knight
Yale University Press, Hardcover, 2016
A Fresh And Fascinating Look At The Philosophies, Politics, And Intellectual Legacy Of One Of The Twentieth Century's Most Influential And Controversial Minds Occupying A Pivotal Position In Postwar Thought, Noam Chomsky Is Both The Founder Of Modern Linguistics And The World's Most Prominent Political Dissident. Chris Knight Adopts An Anthropologist's Perspective On The Twin Output Of This Intellectual Giant, Acclaimed As Much For His Denunciations Of Us Foreign Policy As For His Theories About Language And Mind. Knight Explores The Social And Institutional Context Of Chomsky's Thinking, Showing How The Tension Between Military Funding And His Role As Linchpin Of The Political Left Pressured Him To Establish A Disconnect Between Science On The One Hand And Politics On The Other, Deepening A Split Between Mind And Body Characteristic Of Western Philosophy Since The Enlightenment. Provocative, Fearless, And Engaging, This Remarkable Study Explains The Enigma Of One Of The Greatest Intellectuals Of Our Time. -- The Revolutionary -- The Language Machine -- A Man Of His Time -- The Most Hideous Institution On This Earth -- The Cognitive Revolution -- The Tower Of Babel -- The Pentagon's 'new Tower' -- Machine Translation : The Great Folly -- A Universal Alphabet Of Sounds -- Russian Formalist Roots -- Incantation By Laughter -- Tatlin's Tower -- An Instinct For Freedom -- The Linguistics Wars -- Between Colliding Tectonic Plates -- The Escapologist -- The Soul Mutation -- Carburettor And Other Innate Concepts -- A Scientific Revolution? -- Mindless Activism, Tongue-tied Science -- Chomsky's Tower -- Before Language -- The Human Revolution. Blood relations : menstruation and the origins of culture
Chris Knight, Chris Knight
Yale University Press, 2018
The emergence of symbolic culture is generally linked with the development of the hunger-gatherer adaptation based on a sexual division of labor. This original and ingenious book presents a new theory of how this symbolic domain originated. Integrating perspectives of evolutionary biography and social anthropology within a Marxist framework, Chris Knight rejects the common assumption that human culture was a modified extension of primate behavior and argues instead that it was the product of an immense social, sexual, and political revolution initiated by women. Culture became established, says Knight, when evolving human females began to assert collective control over their own sexuality, refusing sex to all males except those who came to them with provisions. Women usually timed their ban on sexual relations with their periods of infertility while they were menstruating, and to the extent that their solidarity drew women together, these periods tended to occur in synchrony. The result was that every month with the onset of menstruation, sexual relations were ruptured in a collective, ritualistic way as the prelude to each successful hunting expedition. This ritual act was the means through which women motivated men not only to hunt but also to concentrate energies on bringing back the meat. Knight shows how this hypothesis sheds light on the roots of such cultural traditions as totemic rituals, incest and menstrual taboos, blood-sacrifice, and hunters’ atonement rites. Providing detailed ethnographic documentation, he also explains how Native American, Australian Aboriginal, and other magico-religious myths can be read as derivatives of the same symbolic logic.

Chris Storm; Kinkaid Knight
Dark and Stormy Knight LLC, Breedverse 01, 2023
Omegas are rare. Omegas are precious. Winter is so freaking over being an Omega! All his life, Winter has been kept in a pretty cage to keep him safe. Only Omegas can procreate with anyone, regardless of species or designation, and male Omegas tend to breed powerful Alphas. Since he’s not stupid enough to tempt fate and run away, he lives vicariously through the stories told by his older Alpha brothers. The only time he’s allowed to interact with outsiders is when there’s a ceremony or celebration, but since his twin sister is having a Mating Ceremony, at least this Christmas he’ll get to celebrate with his family...and maybe actually make some friends outside of his pack! It’s a pain being an Omega!Alphas are powerful. Alphas are feared. Crag loves being an Alpha! As Alpha Wolf and King of the Northwestern Territories, Crag Wolfking has everything he could ever want or desire...except for an Omega to breed proper heirs. None of the Omegas paraded before him have called to his Beast, and he won’t settle for less—he doesn’t have to. When he’s invited to attend the Mating Ceremony of one of his generals, however, he comes face-to-face with an Omega who finally calls to his primal side. Merry Christmas to him! Of course, Crag still has to convince the Omega to actually become his—particularly since his Beta, Lord-General Eberhardt, is his bond-mate. That shouldn’t be a problem for a King though, right? It’s good to be the Alpha!Winter and the Wolves is a gay triad/polyamorous Omegaverse story, with all the tropes and associated with the genre! For a full list of Tropes & Triggers, please see the inside of the book. It is the first book in the "BreedVerse" series, where the Breed include Shifters, Fae, Vampires, and more!Note: Winter and the Wolves was previously published on Kindle Vella, but has been edited and expanded with a new epilogue!

Knight Blindness
Chris Karlsen [Karlsen, Chris]
Knights in Time #3, 2013
Ready for battle, Medieval English knight, Stephen Palmer, charges into the French enemy’s cavalry line. Heeding a warning given months before, he hesitates as he comes face-to-face with the knight in the warning. Struck down in the year 1356, he finds himself landing in the year 2013. Grievously wounded, he’s taken to a nearby hospital. Confused by the new world surrounding him, he attempts to convince the staff he’s from another time, only to find they think him mad. Rescued by friends, who, to his surprise, have also come through time, he must find a way to function in this odd modern England. He is quickly enchanted by the kind Esme Crippen, the young woman hired to tutor him. She too is enchanted by him. Tempted to deepen the relationship, she hesitates thinking him adorable, but mad. He must discover the means for getting her to believe the truth, all the while, unknown to him, he didn’t come forward in time alone. The enemy knight has also traveled to 2013.French noble, Roger Marchand, doesn’t question why the English knight who charged him hesitated. That fraction of a pause gave him the advantage needed and he brought his sword down upon the Englishman’s helmet hard, unhorsing the knight. He moved to finish the Englishman off when the world changed in a rush of sensations as he is ripped through time. Seeking a reason for the terrible event, he enters a nearby chapel. There, thinking God has chosen him for a quest to turn French defeat that day in 1356 to victory, he sets out to find the English knight. The man he is convinced holds the key to time. If he returns to the day of the battle, he can warn his king of mistakes that snatched victory from them.

Blood relations : menstruation and the origins of culture
Christopher Knight, Chris Knight
Yale University Press, New Haven, Connecticut, 1991
The emergence of human culture is generally traced to the development of a social order in which males hunted large game animals and females had access to the meat. This book presents a new theory of how this culture originated. Integrating perspectives of evolutionary biology and social anthropology within a Marxist framework, Christopher Knight rejects the common assumption that human culture was a gradual extension of primate behaviour and argues instead that it was the product of an immense social, sexual, and political revolution spearheaded by women. Culture became established, says Knight, when women realized that men armed with hunting weapons could not be trusted to share the spoils of the hunt with women and offspring. They began to assert conscious control over their own sexuality, refusing sex to all males except those who came to them with provisions. Women usually timed their ban on sexual relations with their periods of infertility while they were menstruating, and to the extent that their solidarity drew women together, these periods tended to occur in synchrony. Thus every month with the onset of menstruation, sexual relations were ruptured as the prelude to each successful hunting expedition; it was the means through which women motivated men not only to hunt but also to concentrate their energies on bringing back the meat. Knight shows how his hypothesis sheds light on the roots of such cultural traditions as totemic rituals, incest and menstrual taboos, blood-sacrifices, and hunters' atonement rites. Providing detailed ethnographic documentation of this theories, he also explains how myths and fairy tales form European, American Indian, Australian Aboriginal, and other cultures seem to the derivations of the same cultural symbolic rituals.

- ViragorCerbSec is the largest personal security corporation on the Pleasure Planet. Their agents are known for their loyalty, their ferocity, and their honor - rare and precious in a world where anything and everything has a price. They say, 'the hounds of CerbSec cannot be swayed or bought, and if you kill one, you will never be able to hide from the rest.'I'm about to test this belief because I've been hired to cut off the head of the beast and take out their mysterious leader known only as Hades. I'm not expecting this to be a problem, especially when I discover his greatest secret - that he is a mere human. What nothing could have prepared me for, however, is discovering that he is MINE.LochosI've spent my entire life on the Pleasure Planet, hidden and safe in the security of CerbSec's headquarters, Elysium, with my twin daughters. Everything I do is to keep my girls safe and to ensure CerbSec remains on the right side of history, even if we are protecting some of the scummiest criminals this side of the 'Verse.I've spent my entire life on the Pleasure Planet, hidden and safe in the security of CerbSec's headquarters, Elysium, with my twin, teenage daughters. Everything I do is to keep my girls safe and to ensure CerbSec remains on the right side of history, even if we are protecting some of the scummiest criminals this side of the 'Verse.Of course, there is no way that I could have predicted that my little sanctuary was about to be invaded by an assassin sent to kill me or that instead of killing me, he'd claim that I'm going to be his spouse and have his babies...I mean, who could have predicted that?!I’m too old to be a father again, especially since he wants me to be his incubator?!
