This book has been edited by two of the best known experts in the field of breast diseases. It was in 1975 that MICHAEL FRIEDRICH, Professor of Radiology at the Free University of Berlin, commenced his efforts to develop and improve mammography so as to allow the early diagnosis of breast cancer. The outstanding results that he has achieved have led to awards from the German Radiological Society (the Hermann-Holthusen-Ring) and the Medical High School, Hannover (the Johann-Georg-Zimmermann Prize). EDWARD ALLEN SICKLES, Professor of Radiology and Chief of the Breast Imaging Section at the University of California San Francisco, has since 1976 devoted much effort to comparison of the different methods of diagnostic radiology of the breast, including ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging. He has received many distinctions and important awards in recognition of his studies. Professor Sickles is one of the leading radiologists in this field of research in the United States, and is well known all over the world. Erscheinungsdatum: 02.11.1999

Sickles at Gettysburg : The Controversial Civil War General Who Committed Murder, Abandoned Little Round Top, and Declared Himself the Hero of Gettysburg Hessler, James A.;Sickles, Daniel Edgar Savas Beatie, 1st paperback ed, 2015;2009
Finalist for Biography, 2009, Army Historical Foundation Distinguished Book AwardWinner, 2009, The Bachelder-Coddington Literary Award, Given by the Robert E. Lee Civil War Round Table of Central New JerseyWinner, 2009, Gettysburg Round Table’s Distinguished Book AwardSickles at Gettysburg: The Controversial Civil War General Who Committed Murder, Abandoned Little Round Top, and Declared Himself the Hero of Gettysburg, by licensed battlefield guide James Hessler, is the most deeply-researched, full-length biography to appear on this remarkable American icon. And it is long overdue. No individual who fought at Gettysburg was more controversial, both personally and professionally, than Major General Daniel E. Sickles. By 1863, Sickles was notorious as a disgraced former Congressman who murdered his wife’s lover on the streets of Washington and used America’s first temporary insanity defense to escape justice. With his political career in ruins, Sickles used his connections with President Lincoln to obtain a prominent command in the Army of the Potomac’s Third Corps—despite having no military experience. At Gettysburg, he openly disobeyed orders in one of the most controversial decisions in military history. No single action dictated the battlefield strategies of George Meade and Robert E. Lee more than Sickles’ unauthorized advance to the Peach Orchard, and the mythic defense of Little Round Top might have occurred quite differently were it not for General Sickles. Fighting heroically, Sickles lost his leg on the field and thereafter worked to remove General Meade from command of the army. Sickles spent the remainder of his checkered life declaring himself the true hero of Gettysburg.Although he nearly lost the battle, Sickles was one of the earliest guardians of the battlefield when he returned to Congress, created Gettysburg National Military Park, and helped preserve the field for future generations. But Dan Sickles was never far from scandal. He was eventually removed from the New York Monument Commission and nearly went to jail for misappropriation of funds.Hessler’s book is a balanced and entertaining account of Sickles’ colorful life. Civil War enthusiasts who want to understand General Sickles’ scandalous life, Gettysburg’s battlefield strategies, the infighting within the Army of the Potomac, and the development of today’s National Park will find Sickles at Gettysburg a must-read.About the Author: James A. <The> will to power : selections from the notebooks of the 1880s Friedrich Nietzsche, (trans., M A Scarpitti) (ed., R. Kevin Hill) Penguin Classics, Paperback, 2017
New to Penguin Classics, The Will to Power contains some of Nietzsche's most fascinating and combative writings on nihilism, metaphysics and the future of Europe. Assembled by Nietzsche's sister after his death, The Will to Power is a collection of the philosopher's reflections and theories taken from his unpublished notebooks. Covering topics such as nihilism, Christianity, morality, and the famous "will to power," the book was controversially presented as Nietzsche's all-but-completed magnum opus containing his philosophical system. Including some of his most interesting metaphysical and epistemological thoughts, as well as some of his most disturbing ethical and political comments, the book would prove to have a significant influence on Nietzsche's contentious reception in the twentieth century. For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,700 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators.

lgli/The Oxford Handbook of Productivity Analysis - Emili Grifell-Tatj;C.A. Knox Lovell;Robin C. Sickles;.pdf
The Oxford Handbook of Productivity Analysis (Oxford Handbooks) Emili Grifell-Tatjé (editor), C.A. Knox Lovell (editor), Robin C. Sickles (editor) Oxford University Press, Incorporated, Oxford University Press USA, New York, 2018
Productivity underpins business success and national well-being and thus it is crucial to understand the factors that influence productivity growth. This volume provides a comprehensive exploration into the significance of productivity growth for business, the economy, and for social economic progress. It examines how productivity is defined, measured and implemented. It also surveys the dispersion of productivity across time and place, focusing on the productivity dynamics that either leads to a reallocation of resources that reduces dispersion and increases aggregate productivity or, conversely, allows dispersion to persist behind barriers to productivity-enhancing reallocation. A third focus is an investigation of the drivers of, or impediments to, productivity growth, some of which are organizational in nature and under management control and others of which are institutional in nature and subject to public policy intervention. The <em>Oxford Handbook of Productivity Analysis</em> contains contributions of distinguished productivity experts from around the world who analyze a wide range of timely issues. These issues concern purely analytical topics surrounding the measurement of productivity in various situations, beginning with the ideal situation in which all inputs and all outputs, and their prices, are observed accurately. They also include service sectors such as education in which the services provided are hard to define, much less measure, and other sectors that generate undesirable environmental externalities that are difficult to price and complicate the very definition of productivity. The issues also involve business management topics ranging from the role of business models and benchmarking to the quality of management practices, the adoption of new technologies, and possible complementarities between the two. The relationship between productivity and business performance is also explored. At a more aggregate level the issues range from the impacts of market power, incentive regulation, international trade and global value chains on productivity, to the contribution of productivity to economic development and economic welfare.

The Longwood Reader, 6th Edition Charles Dawe, Edward A. Dornan, J. Michael Finnegan Addison-Wesley Longman, Incorporated, 6th edition, June 27, 2005
Organized by the common patterns of rhetorical development, this composition reader is particularly distinguished by its selection of readings, all of which have been class-tested and chosen for their ability to stimulate and interest today's college students. The text draws a strong connection between active, critical reading and careful, thoughtful writing. Two introductory units offer step-by-step suggestions for sound reading strategies and for writing as a process. Each unit begins with an extended introduction to a rhetorical pattern and provides an abundance of illustrative examples to help students understand the methods and purposes writers use in employing the pattern. Annotated student essays in each unit introduction illustrate students' thought processes in working with each rhetorical strategy. Extensive post-reading apparatus for each selection includes questions on meaning and purpose, strategy and structure, style and language, and writing tasks.

King Edward III Michael Packe; edited by L.C.B. Seaman Routledge (first published March 1983), Paperback, 1984
Edward III (1312-77) was one of the greatest English kings, and his fifty-year reign was rich in dramatic events and vivid contrasts. He waged a fierce campaign against the Scots, and his claim to the throne of France started the Hundred Years War, in which the spectacular victories of Sluys, Crécy and Poitiers made the king and his eldest son, the Black Prince, into figures of legend. This was the age of chivalry, symbolized by Edward's founding of the Order of the Garter. It was also the age of the Black Death, the greatest catastrophe of the Middle Ages. No full-scale biography of Edward has appeared since Victorian times, and the present book is the only complete account of the reign of Edward III--it takes us from its violent beginnings as he avenged his father's murder, through the years of splendour, to his lonely old age and solitary death.

lgli/Salim Michael Edward - Awakening, a matter of life or death (2020).epub
Awakening, a matter of life or death Salim Michael Edward Religion & Spirituality - Theosophy & New Age, 2020
Awakening is something to experience here and now by way of specific efforts and not a future prospect, an indeterminate hope at an indefinite distance in time. In this book, Edward Salim Michael teaches the decisive importance of a different perception of time, in order to reach another state of being and consciousness, by way of which one can be free from the law of the chain of cause and effect. He casts a penetrating gaze on the various aspects of reincarnation, as well as on the Bodhisattva vow. He shows the power of predominant states in the process of recurrence, in this life or another life, and he explains the close relationship that exists between the phenomenon of nocturnal dreams and the after-death state. All these teachings are the fruits of assiduous concentration practice and mindfulness over more than fifty years. Beyond dogma, Edward Salim Michael shares his experiences and the understandings he has drawn from them. He unveils the spiritual heights that may be attained if one makes the appropriate efforts.Born in England, Edward Salim Michael (1921–2006) spent his youth in various Eastern countries, and he also lived in India, his grandmother’s country, for a long time. Having understood the tragedy of what he called a “waking sleep,” in which humanity is plunged without knowing it, he subsequently struggled, with intensity, to deepen and hold himself within another state of consciousness, which is the ultimate aim of a quest and which might be called one’s Buddha-Nature or, equally, the Infinite within oneself. His teaching is close to Buddhism, but, as all his writings have come out of direct spiritual experiences, he readily uses quotations from The Bhagavad Gita, the Gospels, or from Christian or Sufi mystics to illustrate his words. He is the author of The Law of Attention: Nada Yoga and the Way of Inner Vigilance, now a seminal classic.

&lt;The&gt; will to power : selections from the notebooks of the 1880s Friedrich Nietzsche; Michael A. Scarpitti; R. Kevin Hill Penguin Classics, Paperback, 2017

Rainer Maria Rilke and Lou Andreas-Salomé: The Correspondence Rilke, Rainer Maria & Andreas-Salomé, Lou & Pfeiffer, Ernst & Snow, Edward A. & Winkler, Michael W.W . Norton, 2006
He would become one of the most important poets of the twentieth century; she was the über-muse of Europe's turn-of-the-century thinkers and artists. In this never-before-translated collection of letters spanning almost thirty years, the poet Rainer Maria Rilke and Lou Andreas-Salomé, a writer and intellectual fourteen years his senior, pen a relationship that moves from that of lovers to that of mentor and protégé, to that of deepest personal and literary allies. From the time of their first meeting and consequent affair to Rilke's death in 1926, Rilke and Salomé reeled through extremes of love, pain, annoyance, desire, and need--yet guided each other in one of the most fruitful artistic exchanges in twentieth-century literature. Despite illness, distance, and emotional and psychological pain, they managed to cultivate, through strikingly honest prose, an enduring and indispensable friendship, a decades-long heartfelt dialogue that encompassed love, art, and the imagination.
