Kundenwert : Grundlagen - Innovative Konzepte - Praktische Umsetzungen
Bernd Günter; Sabrina Helm
Gabler Verlag Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, Springer Nature, Wiesbaden, 2013

by Adrian Renner
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, Springer Nature, Wiesbaden, 2011
Climate change and its implications for consumers and policymakers, have been discussed extensively. Adrian Renner provides a unique perspective on how stockholders react if companies move towards a carbon-conscious future. A multi-country event study approach was used to analyze stock market reactions of the largest 500 companies globally. Selbstwertmanagement: Psychische Belastung Im Umgang Mit Schwierigen Kunden (german Edition)
Surma, Silke
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, 2012, 2011-10-21
Erscheinungsdatum: 21.10.2011

Value Creation in Successful LBOs
by Daniel Pindur
Deutscher Universitätsverlag, Springer Nature, Wiesbaden, 2007
The LBO phenomenon has recently experienced considerable attention in academic literature; especially wealth effects on the parties involved seem to be at the forefront of interest. However, empirical academic work on ex-post value creation and performance analysis is still in its infancy, predominantly due to the lack of available information on firms that have experienced and completed an LBO. Daniel Pindur analyzes value creation in successful LBOs on investment level conceptually and empirically from an LBO equity investor perspective. Based on the LBO transaction model, the author decomposes total proceeds to LBO equity investors and derives a two-tier framework of an internal and an external perspective, thereby structuring the conceptual discussion of various determinants affecting these components. Founded on a novel database with detailed company- and transaction-specific information for a sample of 42 realized European LBO investments, he then quantifies LBO investment performance measures and their components and identifies the determinants of value creation in LBO investments.

Open Source Product Development: The Meaning and Relevance of Openness (Forschungs-/Entwicklungs-/Innovations-Management)
by Kerstin Balka
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, 2011, 2011
Open source software development has received considerable scholarly attention, much of which is based on the presumption that the 'open source model' holds some lessons of broader applicability. Kerstin Balka focuses on the open source development of tangible objects, so-called open design. To explored the landscape and mechanisms of open design, she presents a comprehensive study of 104 projects and an in-depth case study of six projects. The subsequent quantitative study explores openness as a gradual and multi-dimensional concept showing that companies can successfully implement strategies of partial openness to safeguard value capture without alienating their developer community.

Innovation Performance and Clusters : A Dynamic Capability Perspective on Regional Technology Clusters
by Nicole Röttmer
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, 2011, 2011
Clusters form a cornerstone of the European Commission's innovation strategy. However, they are often not as innovative as expected. While strong quantitative insights into the resource base of successful clusters exist, evidence on soft success factors is anecdotal and dispersed across research streams. Nicole R?¶ttmer sets out to identify and describe these capabilities, their impact on cluster innovativeness in the interplay with cluster resources and their development over time in a comprehensive, dynamic model. Across clusters, she illustrates the existence of dynamic capabilities in networks and their impact on cluster performance, providing an impetus for a change in cluster development policies and cluster management.

Odious Debt: Law and Economics Perspectives
by Stephania Bonilla
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, Ökonomische Analyse des Rechts, 2011, 2011
The international debate on odious debt touches on many fundamental issues, including the intersection between ethics and finance, the moral responsibility of parties to international contracts and of sovereigns to their constituents. Stephania Bonilla analyzes the dynamics of sovereign debt relations and looks at how the incentive structures of the parties involved can have implications on odious debt. She specifically looks at the role of international law in the reputation mechanism sustaining creditor-debtor relations. Further, she examines the factors and players that drive change in sovereign debt governance, in an effort to move towards a more sustainable financial system with a more equitable distribution of burden between lenders and borrowers. Academic Entrepreneurship: Unternehmertum in der Forschung (German and English Edition)
Achim Walter, Michael Auer (auth.), Achim Walter, Michael Auer (eds.)
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, Gabler Edition Wissenschaft, 1. Aufl, Wiesbaden, 2009

Mutual Fund Performance and Performance Persistence: The Impact of Fund Flows and Manager Changes (Geld - Banken - Börsen)
by Peter Lückoff
Gabler, Betriebswirt.-Vlg, 2011, 2011
Superior investment performance is the ultimate objective of mutual fund investors. However, past fund performance is no reliable indicator of future performance. Peter LÃ1⁄4ckoff investigates why fund flows and manager changes act as equilibrium mechanisms and drive the performance of both previously outperforming and previously under-performing funds back to average levels. These results have important implications for investors, investment management companies and regulators.

Essays on the Economic Consequences of Mandatory IFRS Reporting around the world (Quantitatives Controlling)
by Ulf Brüggemann
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, Quantitatives Controlling, 2011, 2011
Many listed companies around the world are required to prepare their consolidated accounts according to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) since fiscal year 2005. Ulf Brüggemann discusses and empirically investigates the economic consequences of this mandatory switch to IFRS. He provides evidence that cross-border investments by individual investors increased following the introduction of IFRS. However, he also finds that uneven implementation of IFRS and its impact on contractual outcomes whose features vary substantially across countries are likely to dampen the benefits of uniform accounting standards. Taken together, his analysis shows that mandatory IFRS reporting has the potential to produce both intended and unintended consequences. Erscheinungsdatum: 31.08.2011

Assessing the Economic Value of Venture Capital Contracts: An Option Pricing Approach (ebs-Forschung, Schriftenreihe der EUROPEAN BUSINESS SCHOOL Schloß Reichartshausen (78))
by Jil Caroline Onimus
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, EBS Forschung 78, 1, 2011
Jil C. Onimus makes a contribution to the nascent research line on the economic value of venture capital contracts which lies at the intersection of venture capital contract design and real option pricing. She identifies the baskets of real options embedded in model venture capital contracts as published by the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) and shows how they can be priced in interaction using Lease Squares Monte Carlo simulation. The pricing model is calibrated by means of a dataset of deal terms in Silicon Valley as well as industry statistics from the NVCA. By applying the model to standard investment scenarios (multiple financing rounds with multiple investors), the author obtains estimates of option values for individual terms and for full contracts with interaction effects.

The Economics of Intellectual Property Rights in China : Patents, Trade, and Foreign Direct Investment
Johannes Liegsalz (auth.)
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, 10.1007/97, 2010
The importance of intellectual property rights in industrialized countries, as well as in emerging economies, has been increasing considerably over the past two decades. An important event in the course of this development was the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS). Especially regarding the economic development of the People's Republic of China (PRC), intellectual property rights have attracted the attention of scientists and decision-makers in business and public policy. While China meets the basic legal requirements of a well-developed system for the application and examination of intellectual property rights, the enforcement of these rights still proves to be a major issue. Academic research regarding China's IPR system is still sparse. Moreover, there are considerable gaps in the literature. In previous academic studies, the examination process at the Chinese State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) has not been researched thoroughly. Moreover, the fundamental relationship between international trade flows, foreign direct investment and the design of the patent system in the People's Republic is in need of more detailed analysis. In his dissertation, Johannes Liegsalz tackles three specific questions immediately related to this nexus. He applies multivariate econometric methods to different data sets which were assembled specifically for the purpose of this thesis. The first chapter of the thesis analyzes the duration of the examination process for patent applications at the SIPO.

Managing Value Capture: Empirical Analyses of Managerial Challenges in Capturing Value (Innovation und Entrepreneurship)
by Timo Fischer
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, Innovation und Entrepreneurship, 2011, 2011
How some firms manage to capture more value than others is a question central to practitioners and researchers alike. In this context, Timo Fischer conducts three empirical studies. The first study analyzes non-linearities in the effectiveness of appropriability mechanisms and interactions between selected appropriability mechanisms, which firms should exploit to optimize capturing value. The second evaluates whether R&D and marketing managers have diverging perceptions of the effectiveness of appropriability mechanisms, which could create friction in the formation of a coherent strategy for capturing value. The third study examines whether the patent troll business model is sustainable under envisioned legal changes and thus patent trolls pose a long-term threat to value capture in value creating firms. Relationships Between Foreign Subsidiaries: Competition And Cooperation In Multinational Plant Engineering Companies (mir-edition)
Julia Maurer (auth.)
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, 1, 2011
International business scholars have conducted a considerable amount of research on both headquarters-subsidiary relationships and subsidiary roles. The horizontal relationships between foreign subsidiaries, however, have not gained much attention – although these linkages are important to the Multinational Corporation (MNC). Business practice shows that subsidiaries can cooperate and/or compete with one another, and that their relationships differ even across companies operating in the same industry. Julia Maurer offers the first comprehensive conceptual and empirical approach to the topic. She develops a novel framework for the analysis of intersubsidiary relationships and applies it to the large-scale plant engineering industry. The empirical study confirms that an MNC`s strategic orientation has a considerable impact on its intersubsidiary relationships. Erscheinungsdatum: 05.09.2011

Performance Evaluation Of Foreign Subsidiaries (mir-edition)
Dr. Katharina Kretschmer (auth.)
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, mir-Edition, 1, 2009
Today, Multinational Corporations (MNCs) spread their value chains across the globe and foreign subsidiaries play a crucial role in creating value within and for the MNC. While some MNCs are aware of their subsidiaries’ performance, others only have a vague idea. Research findings in this area are scarce and it is still little known on how different subsidiaries should be evaluated in order to maximize their contribution to the performance of the MNC as a whole. Katharina Kretschmer aims at filling this research gap. Qualitative case studies are used to analyze performance evaluation within MNCs empirically. The author shows that role differentiation exists within one MNC when subsidiaries with different strategic roles are identified. Furthermore, patterns are discovered in their performance evaluation. Deep insights into the implications of subsidiary roles are displayed, and it is demonstrated that role-specific subsidiary management is possible, if not necessary. In the future, MNC managers could benefit even more if, instead of treating all their subsidiaries alike, they approached them differently – especially when evaluating their performance.

Dynamics of Drivers of Organizational Change
Nicole Zimmermann; Peter Milling
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, 2011, 2011
Accomplishing organizational change is a challenging managerial task. Often, organizations have difficulties in recognizing the need to change. Nicole Zimmermann investigates the barriers to, but also in particular the drivers of organizational change. She places special emphasis on a systemic perspective - using system dynamics modeling - and makes use of a case study of the move to electronic trading as the New York Stock Exchange. It is the first investigation of this transition from an organizational perspective. The causal and dynamic analysis reveals the complexity of change. From the case-specific as well as from a generic study, a structural model results that is able to explain how environmental and cognitive drivers, inertia and managerial attention interact.

The Taxation of Capitalistic Bequests
Verena Kley (auth.)
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, 1st ed. 2012, Wiesbaden, 2012
The taxation of bequests has long been and still is subject to intensive discussions in many industrialized countries. Triggered by these discussions, Verena Kley analyzes the taxation of bequests from economic perspectives, focusing on wealth transfers of very rich individuals. Given empirical findings, bequests of these individuals generate almost the entire revenues from wealth transfer taxation. Due to this, their specific preferences prove to be decisive for the optimal taxation of bequests. The author analyzes normative as well as positive implications for optimal wealth transfer taxation, accounting for a ‚capitalist spirit’ – traditionally associated with the upper tail of the wealth distribution. Measuring Supply Management’s Budget Effects: Introduction of Return on Spend as an Indicator of Supply Management’s Financial Effectiveness (Einkauf, Logistik und Supply Chain Management)
by Anna Quitt
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, Gabler Edition Wissenschaft, 1st ed, Wiesbaden, 2010
Despite its strategic focus, supply management has not yet gained due recognition for its value contribution since it can still not reliably show its effects on the corporate bottom line. Based on practice-oriented and practice-relevant research methods, Anna Quitt, therefore, designs an integrated process for measuring supply management’s budget effects and develops Return on Spend as an innovative financial effectiveness indicator. She shows that transparent savings measurement needs to start with supply management’s budgeting integration to overcome current measurement deficiencies and to establish supply management as an equal business partner.

The Economics of Intellectual Property Rights in China : Patents, Trade, and Foreign Direct Investment
Johannes Liegsalz; Dietmar Harhoff
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, Gabler research, 1st ed, Wiesbaden, 2010
The protection of intellectual property rights (IPRs) is a contentious issue in developing and emerging economies. While countries like China are often reluctant to strengthen IPRs, industrialized countries complain about welfare losses in their markets due to foreign counterfeiting and piracy. In this context, Johannes Liegsalz empirically analyzes the legal framework and the economic relevance of patents in the People's Republic of China. His results show that IPRs play a vital role in contemporary China and that they have a positive impact on international trade flows and foreign direct investments.

Entrepreneurial Orientation in the Public Sector: When Middle Managers Create Public Value
Fabian Elias Diefenbach
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, 2011, 2011
Entrepreneurship is often considered one way for public sector organizations to better serve the public. But what are the drivers for entrepreneurship in such organizations? And does entrepreneurship really create value? To answer these questions, Fabian E. Diefenbach develops a research model based on a comprehensive review of the literature on private sector corporate entrepreneurship, public entrepreneurship, and public value management. The empirical analyses identify five drivers of entrepreneurship and show a positive effect of entrepreneurship on value creation. This book concluded with a detailed discussion of the results, and importantly, their implications for public sector managers.

Ripple Effect: How Empowered Involvement Drives Word of Mouth (Forschungsgruppe Konsum und Verhalten)
Martin Oetting; SpringerLink (Online service)
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, Forschungsgruppe Konsum und Verhalten, 1, 2009
Traditional advertising is struggling, while word of mouth - the most trusted source of product information - is expanding into entirely new dimensions on the Web. For more than sixty years, scholars have been researching word of mouth, yet surprisingly few have investigated how to stimulate it. This book seeks to close that gap. Based on involvement and empowerment research, it is the first scientific study that links word of mouth to a participatory marketing approach, thus providing an answer to what may be marketing's most pressing questions: how to harness the power of blogs, Facebook, and the Social Web.

Zur interkommunalen Handhabung des Zinsrisikos (Finanzwirtschaft, Unternehmensbewertung & Revisionswesen) (German Edition)
Schneider, Johannes
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, Gabler Research : Finanzwirtschaft, Unternehmensbewertung & Revisionswesen, 1. Aufl, Wiesbaden, 2012
Effective Strategy Implementation: Conceptualizing Firms' Strategy Implementation Capabilities and Assessing Their Impact on Firm Performance (Schriften zum europäischen Management)
Adele J. Huber (auth.)
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, Schriften zum europäischen Management, 1st ed. 2011, Wiesbaden, 2011
Adele J. Huber discovers that a firm’s strategy implementation capabilities are a key driver of the strategies' performance outcomes. Drawing on organizational learning theory, she identifies the organizational abilities and processes that constitute a firm's Strategy Implementation Capability construct and shows empirically that the concept is very valuable in explaining how innovative strategies translate into a firm's performance. Her findings are particularly interesting for managers and researchers who focus on strategy formulation and execution. They also show the relation between strategy implementation and competitive advantage. Erscheinungsdatum: 29.07.2011

Aligning Information Technology, Organization, And Strategy: Effects On Firm Performance (markt- Und Unternehmensentwicklung Markets And Organisations)
Ferdinand Mahr (auth.)
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, Markt- und Unternehmensentwicklung Markets and Organisations, 1st ed. 2010, Wiesbaden, 2010
Information technology (IT) has the potential to substantially enhance firm performance. However, not all firms possess the complementary factors that unlock the full value of IT. Ferdinand Mahr develops an integrative theoretical model of IT complements such as organizational structure, human resource management, and corporate strategy. Further, he analyzes two unique datasets gathered through 1,500 telephone interviews with managers. He examines how the organization and management required to enable IT's positive performance effects differ with respect to a firm’s strategic orientation toward efficiency or innovation. He also shows that the use of a specific mix of IT can outweigh the usually detrimental performance effects of hybrid strategies that mix efficiency- and innovation-orientation. This book shows that IT does indeed matter if adequately aligned with organization and strategy. Erscheinungsdatum: 14.09.2010

IT Outsourcing Governance: Client Types and Their Management Strategies (Informationsmanagement und Computer Aided Team)
Stefanie Leimeister (auth.)
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, 2010 Springer E-Books, Wiesbaden, 2010
The increased complexity and variety of information systems outsourcing poses challenges for the successful management of sourcing projects. Stefanie Leimeister examines different types of IT outsourcing relationships and their governance structures depending on the outsourcing clients’ underlying expectations. Based on a variety of current theories from the fields of information systems, business administration, and social science, she develops a governance model for the successful management of IT outsourcing projects. Following a multi-method approach and also based on a quantitative empirical investigation of German IT leaders and CIOs, she proposes appropriate governance mechanisms for the specific management of each outsourcing client type. The author derives actionable advice for applicable strategies and an effective allocation of resources for an outsourcing venture.

Entrepreneurship in a European Perspective : Concepts for the Creation and Growth of New Ventures
Christine K. Volkmann, Kim Oliver Tokarski, Marc Grünhagen (auth.)
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, 10.1007/97, 2010
Foreword One of the most frequently debated questions in management relates to what the r- sons for success and failure of new companies, corporate initiatives and projects are. Obviously, to increase the rate of young enterprises’ success while reducing the n- ber of their failures would be a win-win situation for everyone. It is therefore vital to possess a “road map” or set of good advice on this never-easy undertaking. This book responds to such a need by presenting, in an accessible way, an overall view of the fundamental, critical areas of management of both the start-up and the continuity of new enterprises. Primarily, this book is addressed to students and teachers of the growing academic field of entrepreneurship studies. However, in my opinion, it also has an appeal to students and academics in any scholarly field, for in our times we can well speak about an organic interdependence between “entrepreneurship” and “higher education and research”. A number of reasons exist for this double-helix arrangement. The Long Tail of Tourism : Holiday Niches and Their Impact on Mainstream Tourism
Alexis Papathanassis (auth.), Alexis Papathanassis (eds.)
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, 1, 20110423
Over the last decades, mass-tourism and the emergence of the holiday package have transformed recreational travel from a ‘luxury for the few’ to a ‘commodity for the many’. The ever-increasing demand for individuality, enabled by information technologies and the internet, has given rise to numerous, rapidly-expanding holiday niches and a corresponding explosion of specialists. The resulting ‘long tail’ of holiday offerings implies dramatic shifts in the sector’s concentration levels and its competitive dynamics. In order to examine the applicability and validity of this scenario, a number of key holiday niches are examined in terms of their demand development, supplier landscapes, operational challenges and future potential. An Integrative Approach to Innovation Management : Patterns of Companies’ Innovation Orientation and Customer Responses to Product Program Innovativeness
by Nicolas Zacharias
Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, Neue Perspektiven der marktorientierten Unternehmensführung, 2011, 2011
Despite the critical role that managers ascribe to innovation, the high failure rates of newly introduced products indicate that success is difficult to achieve. Nicolas Zacharias addresses this challenge using an integrative approach that deals with the complex organizational antecedents and the customer-related outcomes of product program innovativeness. In his empirical analyses with data from B2B companies, he identifies four different types of innovation orientation and shows that the most innovative companies are financially not the most successful. Furthermore, he investigates positive and negative customer responses to different dimensions of innovativeness as well as contingencies that might alter these linkages. Erscheinungsdatum: 08.09.2011

Gabler Verlag / Springer Fachmedien Wiesbaden GmbH, Wiesbaden, Schriften zum europäischen Management, 1st ed. 2011, Wiesbaden, 2011
Adele J. Huber discovers that a firm’s strategy implementation capabilities are a key driver of the strategies' performance outcomes.
